Maybe it is their responsibility as a commercial company to promote their activities and sales of their products acoss the board.
Perhaps also because, whereas web browsers don't make money, MSFT can expect to generate significant push through revenue supporting developers of silverlight applications.
Perhaps Microsoft are saying "you think our competitors are having internet successes with these browsers. They are not. For example Silverlight has more demand than all of them, and will make us revenue, unlike our competitors browsers. Don't even question that we don't get the internet"
I am not commenting on how good the product is. Merely that I can see why Microsoft would find this comparison useful.
