Tesla (TSLA), as expected, has paid off the entire loan awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy in 2010. The amount left on the loan had been $451.8M. TSLA funded the payment from a $1B stock and convertible senior note offering completed last week. [View news story]
The really delicious part of this is that TSLA was able to sell that second offering at such a high price thanks to all the shorts desperate to cover. The DOE loan was paid back thanks in large part to those that bet against Tesla. Somewhere there's a hollowed out volcano where Elon is laughing maniacally while stroking a bald cat... good guys do that too right?
Hey! don't nit-pick the cherry-picking, I'm sure Saibus Research put a lot of effort into picking the losers out of all the winners like Tesla, Ford and Nissan. Who cares if most of the loans were a smashing success? That doesn't fit their narrative.

It will be interesting to see where the stock goes from here. Probably $200 in four years but we'll probably see $50 again before that. Go Tesla Go! Enjoying the stock but not nearly as much as I'm enjoying my car. ~12000 miles since January.

The biggest production limitation is probably stamping. If I recall correctly that part of the Factory is already running 24 hours a day. Not sure if it's 24/7.

The amount of solar we can install is limited by the amount of electricity we can consume. More EVs = More Solar. Most places won't be limited for a decade or so but some places like Hawaii and Germany are already there.

Nathan it's easy. As solar becomes more popular it's going to saturate the grid and we're going to need "on-demand" demand. Some regions like Germany and Hawaii are already concerned that Solar production will overwhelm demand. Should we wait until that day or start shifting other carbon intensive requirements to electric now?

I've put ~12000 miles on my MS. No mechanical problems at all. I have no idea what this clunk thing is about, I've not seen any mention of it on the Tesla or TMC forums. There is also no noticeable battery degradation either. Absolutely love the car.... and the stock :)

Simple Solution... GO SOLAR!!!! I have a 1300 sq ft house and the panels I was able to fit on the roof produce 2x as much energy as my Tesla and house consume. And I've already driven >11000 miles this year! Don't pay for gas; get paid for electricity... how dumb are the people that don't do this!!!???

"Tesla is a car company, not a tech company"
As a Tesla owner I can tell you that it's more computer than car. With all the Pros and Cons that come with it. I never had to "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" my VW Jetta. That's one Con... but on the flip side at least holding down two buttons for a few seconds has fixed the few problems I've had.
The only part of a Model S that's complicated can be fixed remotely... the software. The rest of the car is exceedingly simple when compared to your standard ICE. Think of all the things that can break in an ICE that a TESLA has no need for.
I find it difficult to accept that companies with decades of manufacturing experience can't build something that competes with the Models S. It's more plausible that they are intentionally not building competing vehicles because they don't want to undercut their established line-up. Think about it... there are very few things that carry from ICE to EV in terms of the drive trains; you don't even need a transmission! VW, Ford, GM all have decades of R&D and Billions of dollars invested in ICE. They want to keep the illusion that ICE is superior as long as possible... but the gig is up. Thank you TESLA for breaking the spell!

I agree that the stock is currently over-priced but no mention of the NUMMI plant Tesla bought for $42M? The NUMMI plant that once produced 500,000+ cars per year. The GEN III that Elon has always said was Teslas mass-market goal. In four years we'll be looking at $80 as a bargain. I do think we'll see $50 again after some profit taking.

+1
I'm amazed, perplexed and disappointed all at the same time but yes, fewer then 50% of the people I run into know what a Tesla is!!! I actually had a car pull up to me a few day ago and ask if it was a Maserati!! I felt incredibly insulted... confusing my MS for some POS Maserati!
