    Do you understand this company though and the pharma business? Warren Buffet has said many times never buy what you don't understand. Does this company have a competitive edge or advantage over their competition? If it does what is it? Merck is solid but be careful none the less.

    If you don't understand the stock then don't buy it. When you buy a stock you are really buying the business so why would you buy a business you don't understand? Warren Buffet has said this many times in value investing. So do you understand this company ViroPharma and what they do ?? Do they have a competitive advantage or edge against their competition?

    Most people shouldn't be investing AT ALL, or if they it should be in the most solid companies possible like Wal-Mart. People need to invest as if they own the business and the whole business at that. If you don't understand how to read cash flow statement, balance sheets, income statements, and you don't understand how much cash the company has and where they are investing it and how well they are investing it with ratios like return on equity, return on invested capital, debt to equity ratio, quick ratio etc. etc. then you should NOT BE INVESTING VERY MUCH IT IS FOOLISH. IF you can't read a cash flow statement then please do not invest until you study.
