  • Highlights from J.C. Penney's latest SEC filing [View news story]
The rising from the ashes may be slow but they are rising and that is good after the RJ debacle. With the commitment to the Home Departments, this will help them rise quicker from the ashes.

  • The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. EPS of $3.04 [View news story]
Would seem to me that one way to increase sales would be to put together a comprehensive Sales and Marketing program for the Furniture Gallery Stores. The Gallery Stores feature well displayed quality furniture at affordable prices. In the Chicago Market The Carson's Furniture Galleries are simply being out advertised on radio, television and in the newspapers. You always advertise furniture in a good economy but you BETTER advertise furniture in sluggish economy if you wish to create traffic in you store. No traffic means no sales and nothing happens until a sale is made. Pretty simple, not rocket science.

  • J.C. Penney brings back sales commissions [View news story]
As as former commissioned associate in Furniture this is a horrible idea at this point in time. The floor is assorted with merchandise that has be rebuked by the customer for 2 years. Without a merchandise change and a consistent marketing program this will cause the 3,000 employees to leave. Commission on Zero sales is Zero. They have gone from a factor in the Furniture Business to a has been at best.

  • Retailers build discounts into initial prices [View news story]
Is this a surprise to anyone? The prices on Memorial Day and Labor Day are just as good usually. The retailers have turned Black Friday into a joke or can you say scam. Wake up shoppers and smell the sale prices.

  • Disney shops to open inside J.C. Penney stores this weekend [View news story]
The Disney Shops have been in the works while RJ was still there. I think dumping the Adler and Conran stuff to Ikea is a great idea. JCP should get about 10 cents on the dollar from the deal. I am afraid thet not even Ikea wants this overpriced, suspect quality merchandise.

  • Report: J.C. Penney to end Martha Stewart partnership [View news story]
Good riddance to another loser brought to you by Ron Johnson. Martha Stewart is like yesterdays soup. Cold and stale. Let's put this square footage in something that sell and produces profits for JC Penney. Maybe next on the chopping block will be Jonathan Adler and Sir Terrance Conran that have been an utter failure in furniture and soft home.

  • Report: J.C. Penney to step up pace of CEO search [View news story]
Ackman is the same guy who gave us Ron Johnson. How dis that work out for JCP. Back off and let Mike Ullman do his job. With Debra Berman on board, I think this is the least to ask. The JCP Board is the direct cause of the company's demise. The people in the stores are busting their butts to keep this company alive. They sure did not cause the problem but they sure are trying to solve it.

  • Retail legal rumblings: An appeals court in California rules that Kohl's (KSS) can be sued over what consumers perceive is false advertising. The court said California consumer law will allow lawsuits in cases where a customer would not have made a purchase except for the false bargain. The ruling could set up an avalanche of similar lawsuits in California against retail chains. [View news story]
Don't know what the false claim was but I am sure it involves some price cut from regular to sale. Seems to me that most all people want tp believe these "Phony" claims of 50% and more off. They want to shop that way so the retailers oblige them . So why the lawsuit?
