  • General Mills: A Strong Dividend Play At 20% Discount Right Now  [View article]
    Interesting thought, however... The CDC estimates that 1 in 3 American kids is obese. 2012 research found that animals fed GMOs (like the GMOs in Gerber baby food) ate more, got fatter, and were less able to digest proteins due to alterations in the micro-structure of their intestines. Independent studies of Monsanto's Roundup Ready GMO (used in General Mills food) showed 3rd generation hamsters fed GMO soy become sterile. GMO crops produce their own insecticide which moves into the food supply. With cancer and birth defects being linked to Roundup Ready GMOs in the food supply, and over 60 countries banning them, how safe is the dividend when General Mills major product lines are banned in North America? Just a question...

    I am very scared of General Mills, Kellogs, etc. The anti-GMO force is strong and growing. These companies don't seem to be able to adapt quickly. GMOs are banned in many places throughout the world, and states are starting to adopt bans as well. They've made minor changes... they need to make more. No one in our family will eat their stuff... too scary, no human studies. I like safer dividends.

    Brad, I was looking at subscribing to your paid newsletter. What do you get in the newsletter, different from your articles? Earlier? Broader spectrum?

    Thanks, Brad! Quick question. I look at Sales Growth, Income Growth, Net Profit, and PE when picking stocks. How do you pull the trigger on a stock like HTA with a 103 PE? In comparison, NLY's PE is 4, and HCP's PE is 21. So what are you looking for that makes HTA or DOC attractive? Thanks for all your great articles!

  • Microsoft's Xbox One Decisions Should Delight Investors  [View article]
    As a MSFT stock holder, I had huge hopes and dreams last year. Win8, Halo new Xbox, and the Surface series. Man, life was going to be so good! Well....
    *Win8 has no Start button, Win8.1 has no Start button. I had to buy Stardock to get any work done.
    *Surface Pro is over priced with rotten battery life. I bought a Samsung 10.1 until Haswell hits the door.
    *And Xbox One is arrogant, oppressive, and selfish.

    Yeah, my 800 shares are up $6 a share since I bought them. But my next game box is already pre-ordered: PS4.
    WAKE UP, BALLMER! Grab the steering wheel! Is this the Exxon Valdez all over again?

    Novice here, seeking enlightenment. Help me with the math, please. So I go to the table 2. There is no April 25th number, but there is an April 29p. Do I divide "13-week avg NSA" by the Feb 4 "13-week avg NSA?" If I do that, here is the formula based on this URL:
    ((13-week avg NSA Apr 29p divided by 13-week avg NSA Feb 4) - 1) * 4

    That gives me 0.04. Multiply by 100, 4%.

    Is that the numbers you are using? I want to reproduce this, and I need the exact formula. Thanks for your help!

  • 60M Windows 8 licenses have now been sold, Microsoft (MSFT) announces. That's up from the 40M the software giant had sold as of late November. Microsoft notes this figure includes "both upgrades and sales to OEMs for new devices" - the latter could include licenses being held as inventory by OEMs. Figures from Net Applications, NPD, and others have tempered hopes that Win. 8's revival would stoke a rebound in PC demand.  [View news story]
    As a stock holder, I believe MSFT made 3 mistakes & 2 smart moves:
    1. Win 8 should ask you if this is a desktop PC, so it can turn off the START page and give you a start button. All this does is alienate people, and cause them to install 3rd party software like pokki.com;
    2. A gesture and 3 button clicks to shut down? Really!! Come on!!
    3. Surface RT that is $100 more than an iPAD; Surface Pro that actually runs Windows software at $1,000. I thought the goal was to compete with Apple, not help them with over-priced products. I can buy the Acer W700 at a much better price!
    Smart moves:
    1. Integrate PC, tablet, & phone;
    2. Use Xbox & Kinect to integrate the living room experience.

    The major bad move is to keep Steve Balmer. Great salesman, but not an innovator. He has technology he just doesn't know what to do with.

    Interesting that GOOG is not in there. They seem a dominant and diverse company. Just read in the Journal about Google cars, and the Droid OS taking market share, and the futuristic Google Glasses. Just curious what you think about GOOG.
