India-IMF Deal: A Tipping Point for Gold? [View article]
Buy coins at places like bulliondirect.com, or buy GDX. Today, unless some international catastrophe happens, like bombing Iran, look for pullbacks before entering Gold picture....good time to hold or look to sell down. After Dec, look for buying opportunities. Gold will pay good but it will be a rough ride for the novice.

In gold mines, always take profit when it is there...there is always ample opportunity to buy back in at a lower price or in another "new" producer. I repeat....sell when you have made some bucks and start looking, greed and anticipation will buy you heartache or worse in miners. It is not an easy ride and it is still a swindlers playground....big time swindlers.

David Einhorn on That Barbarous Relic, Gold [View article]
I'm old, my grandparents died of old age in another century. I know that my grandmother saved silver coins and an occasional gold one. She bought the small savings bonds during the war and after from a treasury that backed the currency with gold. I still have the coins and the bonds paid for many things...none of luxury class. I still follow her advice and buy silver coins and an occasional gold one. I have never lost a penny on a silver coin, some are returning several times over the purchase price. I have a lot of silver and a little gold. I will buy a coin anytime I can afford to part the few dollars one might cost. They are neat to look at and they feel good to hold. I buy them in Mexico at the bank for a dollar or two over spot....a lot of people do.

All I know is this, I shop the used book values on Amazon and then look to Ebay for the same item. It is 50-50, sometimes Ebay Has the bargain...the next day it is Amazon. The quality of each book I have bought (many) has been excellent to new in all cases, Ebay or Amazon. I will never ever buy a New Book again. And how do the Borders and other big book stores stay in business...with prices at least double the on line stores. Are people really that ignorant.
American Booksellers Association asks the Department of Justice to investigate this week's price war between Amazon.com (AMZN), Wal-Mart (WMT) and Target (TGT), claiming it constitutes illegal predatory pricing that is damaging to the book industry and harmful to consumers. [View news story]

The news story above makes absolutely no sense at all. When is a price war "preditory pricing" and how, in heavens name, is it harmful to the consumer. Get these idiots off the page. Or is this something from Orwell's 1984.
Why Everyone Is Wrong About the Inflation/Deflation Debate [View article]
I think, few people can actually remember the price they paid for items at the grocery store one year, two years, ....five years back, etc. That is, loaf of bread, pound of butter, box of oatmeal, rib eye, etc. I think these things are not included in the CPI. Inflation is rampant on main street. I don't put much creedence in the things people spout; I look at he grocery receipt and buy silver coin (and some gold shares). I buy and hold enough so that the increases in grocery and cost of living prices in general are covered by the increase in the Ag/Au price that I own. It works for me. It will work for you, too.
Also, I have moved to a third world country where the quality of daily life (and food) far exceeds that of my homeland.

I go to the grocery store, and yes, even Walmart....I must report that I and my guide dog see no inflation.....I have the food-stamp debit card so there is no load on my pocket-book. There can not be inflation then.
From the Times article: "...if wealthy countries reduce their oil consumption to combat global warming, they should pay compensation to oil producers."
You can bet "your" president and his administration along with the Congress will be studying ways to implement those just proposals, as we speak. I will vote with the ESSO bee(s) at XOM to assure that my vote is counted..
