I have been living in a gold environment since 1973...when one had to know the geology of South Africa and mine life and depth..etc.

It is much harder, physiologically, to buy back in than it is to maintain a position. In short, I loose much more trying to time entry than staying in for the longer term. I sleep well at night, too.

I am not satisfied with the arguments for Gold notes alongside $ notes. I find the article a hard read (maybe I need to have another cup of coffee and read again).

My thought is, if there is a rotten apple and a nice shiney, good one on the table side-by-side, I would buy the good one and so would anyone else. If it were only a limited amt. of good apples, the price would bid to the sky. The folks from every nation would pay with their form of worthless (or soon to be) fiat...where is the gain for the treasury. ( I don't have an MBA so I can't create an answer).

I am going to have that second cup of strong coffee and fondle my gold and silver coins that lay close at hand.....and think some more about that stuff.

I see GBG as one of the most promising in the line up of the many small developers that are on the pre-production cusp. I have owned it for a couple years and cried the tears, but can see no reason to sell. It would have been a great trade vehicle but I missed the timing so I held. I say buy now or on the dips. It has a payday in the near future.

I think Paulson is betting more on the madness (or delusion) of crowds, and his fund fees (1-1/2 plus 20%)....but then, aren't we all?

I think one should hold gold and silver in coin form to the extent of emotional capacity (It will be a rough ride to the summit). And look to miners and derivative ETFs, ETNs for trades. Repeat, this is not gonna be a walk through the park. One must take profits and invest in land and agriculture (food) when possible. Look for chances to enter Alternative Energy and Water with PM profits down the line.

I am very much bullish on PMs....love to feel the coins in my hands.

It is common to pinch or clip bits of the bracelet, bangle or ring and sell or trade with it....it is a 4,000 year old form of money in use today as always.

New York, London, Paris, Rome (western world): In contrast, no one is buying 18K, 14K, artistic gold creations at tremendous premiums, 10 times or more than spot.

And don't look now, but the Asian communities in USA and Europe are practicing that same gold business as mentioned above...go to an Asian shopping center and look in the jewelry stores or ask for Tael and you will be amazed at the display of artless 24K bangles made for chopping.

You guys make me laugh...don't get me wrong, silver is a great investment medium at the moment, but when it soars silver will rain from India and "Indo-China" as well as China. That is what busted the Hunt Brother's dream. Those folks in the mentioned places have been buying silver for thousands of years. It is a cultural thing and it has not gone away at all. Oh, and when those folks sell metals they immediatly but the money received into some form of real estate and accept silver and gold as rents....a cycle.

Don't look now...but no one is buying serious metal jewelry. The stuff is not selling in Dubai, Rome, Paris and New York City. It, however, sells in India, Viet Nam and China in very artless forms of 24 k baubbles and rings meant to be chopped up in tael weights, should the need arise. Kinda like pieces of eight where chopped into 2bits, 4 bits, etc....It's money, plain and simple. So is gold coin and bullion....then there is that silver thing.

I wouldn't touch Tiffany with any length pole.

Apparently you and I have some experience around this arena. I wasn't particularly aiming at your comment, just trying to spread a note of caution. And, make note of the fact that I don't like Casey and his crew...however, I do read some of the posts there. I would love to find a rock with some gold in it or a nugget even...I even dream of buying a metal detector and looking for Centenarios down in Mexico (where I live).

Doug Casey is a con man running one of the biggest digital "Three Card Monty" games that ever came down the pike. All his minions and hucksters could be working carnival side shows in another century.

I do believe there is much money to be made...or saved by investing in PMs and those mining them. I own gold and buy and sell when the mood hits me.

I also believe opinions harvested on "Kitco" will ultimately leave you standing on a deserted corner with empty pockets, while the games has swiftly moved to another corner across town. These guys are all selling something and skilled in the game, and remember the key word in the game is "Confidence".

I live in Mexico; here coins are bought and sold at special counters in the department stores in every town (city or village). Mexico has a one ounce silver coin (Libertad) in circulation. Mexico has a long history with silver and it's coins were used in early American history until the civil war (2bit, 4bits,etc were pieces of 8 reales). Imagine, buying your silver coins at Walmart for a pittance over spot.
