  • IBM: 5 Reasons To Buy Now [View article]
A $5B write off, $ 1B currency rounding, buybacks, 3 yrs of fin engineering and we had fire sale last week. Ask yourself what else don't we know? Because it is a crowd favorite does not mean it will not get a correction. The Apple announcement is PR and nothing more.

  • BlackBerry's Internet Of Things Pipe Dream [View article]
The IOT is still a vague obfuscation of crap. Other than people (like Cisco) telling how big and how many devices no one really seems to care or want to pay for the IoT. e.g. if someone said you can make money using the Internet in 1992. If a miracle happened and instantly this IoT market was here today how did BB get the lead role? What have they done?

  • IBM - Don't Fall For The Illusion [View article]
And since it was white shoe IBM cooking the books for 3 years (instead of putting all that effort into figuring out how to make money) no one will bat an eye or ask for further investigation. An apology, a rounding error, currency "adjustment" and a 5 billion writedown. Don't ask what else is behind the curtain.

  • IBM: Taking A Hard Look At R&D [View article]
R&D is a nice concept but IBM acquires other technologies and companies. IBM does not produce anything tangible and software is always evolving. IBM nor any other tech company does not have the luxury of the glory days of an R&D cycle. The days of a 10 year lead on your competitor and a cash cow are long gone. People are still studying WWII battle plans and will be eliminated by a stealth bomber.

  • IBM: Perhaps A Time To Buy [View article]
I don't even know where to start. I said last year (195) a 20% correction was possible before they admitted to cooking the books for 3 years. Even WB isn't WB 100% of the time. WB with a floor full of geniuses couldn't call this one.
If you got in a $40 congratulations the question now: is this a buy now after a little correction and I think a deeper look is warranted. People are reading way, way, way too much into the Apple thing it is a press release to get their name next to Apple. Not to worry Watson will save you.

Good overview, based on the safety record I am unsure if more nuclear sites in China helps anyone long term. Other than construction companies and haz mat disposal.

I would position this closer gambling not investing. That being said, if you got in at 7 and took to ride to 10 if things went well according to the "experts" you could say you made 50%. You may also find the ride from 7 to 2 is not that far either...

  • War Over The Horizon: Andreessen Vs. Buffett And The Battle For The Future Of Finance [View article]
I usually find Buffet 25 years out of touch but he actually has a point as it relates to tech shares risk. If you bought Apple at the right time you may have done well, if you purchased shares of any other tech also-ran (Palm, BBy, Nok, others take your pick.) chances are you are not as content. So the 1 in 500 chance that your tech has an advantage and is well managed is expensive and riskier than buying a non-tech stock (Exxon, Wallys) that makes money. Buffets last 10 picks were right out of the 70's.

Over analysis of an accessories play because everything has to go under the magnifying glass. 3B is 2X rev, simple ROI if all else fails. There are far better audio phile plays and far better streams plays, mature, stable, known brand name, good demographic accessories.
