  • Behind the rise in rates and the slide in stocks is the FT reporting Bernanke is likely to signal the Fed is close to tapering at his post-FOMC meeting press conference on Wednesday. Bernanke has a dual communication issue: To signal economic improvement is leading the Fed to taper, while at the same time reassuring markets the Fed remains and will remain extraordinarily accommodative. The Dow (DIA +0.3%) is up just 50 points now. [View news story]
What was the immigration program when this country was in its nascent days?

All the immigrants that came in never caused any collapse of anything in our country.

I do regret the way I ended my message. Too late to redo it now, though.

Are you really here to tell us, 'real estate investors are mostly idiots'? You don't know me from anyone else in a crowd, yet you say odds are, I'm an idiot.

All the while, all you have shown is a negative and hostile disposition. Maybe you should do us all a favor and get a different hobby.

At the beginning of each calendar year, or maybe by the end of each calendar year for some, REITs provide their investors with information regarding what percentage of the dividends are classified as ordinary income, how much are capital gains, and Return of Capital.

This information is usually provided through a link at each company's Investor Relation's page.

As stated already, there is not a reason to file for an extension solely because you invested in REITs.

  • Don't Rent This Apartment REIT, Buy It [View article]
What is the cost of a parcel of land in San Francisco or Manhattan for which to build a home? How much would it cost to build a home in either of these two cities? What is the reselling price of homes in these two cities?

All these points are considerations for barriers-to-entry, which do make home ownership is S.F. and Manhattan prohibitive for many people.

This is probably why EQR is not in North or South Dakota, Wyoming, et.al. where population density is not a factor.

Aren't share buybacks really to help the management meet their quarterly and annual targets?

Since when does management use buybacks to appease investors? This, of course, is the reason given for doing it, but let's stop being naive about the matter.

  • Apple: Keep The Faith [View article]
'The United States has been able to decrease its negative account balance from -5% to -3% between 2003 and 2011. The more cash that is being outflown, the less savings available to invest into investment securities like Apple. Since Apple is a really large company in terms of market capitalization ($432.1 billion), the amount of savings available to invest into stocks becomes a contributing factor as to whether or not the stock can fetch a more reasonable market valuation.'

Alex, how much of your money has left the country as a result of the trade deficit? What type of trade do you deal in that causes your money to leave this country?

Also: When you looked through their financial information, what about all the money they leave out of the U.S.?

'Samsung is simply a dari8 copycat of the iPhone with no software and no ideas of its own, as proven in court.'

UPDATE: About fourteen weeks after your comment, Apple was found -- by a court(!!) to have violated Samsung's patent protections. As a result, some of Apple's products has a temporary ban from being sold.

    Who is copying who?

  • Why Kinder Morgan Is The Best MLP [View article]
When did I say it did?

Obviously KMP has raised its distributions since the author last checked.

You asked about the reference to the $1.30, and I explained it to you.

What else needs to be said?

'KMP expects to declare cash distributions of $5.33 per unit, and Kinder Morgan Management, also expects to declare distributions of $5.33 per share for 2013. How do you get $1.30?'

Sunflow, what is 4 * $1.30? Four quarterly payments of $1.30 equals $5.20.

Yes, of it is possible to hold REITs long-term.

When interest rates rise, they will obviously be going through an adjustment period.

When is the P/E multiple used for any REIT?

FFO; and, more specifically, AFFO, are the appropriate metrics for REITs.

  • Realty Income Is Simply A Great REIT And Nowhere Close To A Bubble [View article]
Actually, your question was addressed by Brad with the following excerpt:

'Realty Income is the largest Triple Net REIT in the nation and the growth in the overall sector is enormous. Remember that the "free-standing" sector that was once a small specialty sector is evolving into a dominating industry that will soon surpass many of the other major asset sectors.'

You didn't specify what defines "best," but the use of the term "growth" is often-times used. If you were referring to yield, would you be referring to dividend growth, current yield, et.al? Or, just dividend growth?
