  • Alerian Explains: The Kinder Family [View article]
    wdjax0n,

    What an ignorant comment.

Kinder left Enron before illegalities began at Enron. In fact, these shenanigans did not begin until his replacement (Jeffrey Skilling) was found.

Uncle Pie, before claiming you know what you are talking about (re: 'I guess you can take the man out of Enron, but you can't take the Enron out of the man!'), you need to take the time in making sure you have your facts in order.

  • Kinder Morgan deal risks unpleasant tax surprise for some investors [View news story]
"Units" are used in lieu of "shares" when discussing MLPs. "units" versus "shares" is just a matter of terminology. They both mean the same.

Yes, all KMP unitholders will get KMI.

Specifically, 1 unit of KMP equals a little more than 2 shares of KMI (2.1?? shares), plus $10.77 per unit.

A more specific answer will be found at kindermorgan.com, in the Investor Relations website, in the Press Releases.

  • Digital Realty Has A Powerful Moat Of Dividend Repeatability [View article]
'Office buildings have no moat, and have low returns on invested capital. They are easy to build, and the market gets oversupplied with vacant buildings, like it is now.'

If what you say is factually correct, then how has BXP stayed successful for so long? How has the management of BXP become one of the most admired management teams in the REIT space?

EPS is not much of a practicable metric for REITs, which is why their EPS doesn't match up with their dividend per share.

As glorysk87 states, RE-related depreciation skews the EPS.

Bruce, thanks for this misplaced criticism.

Have you considered taking your own suggestions in writing a "balanced article" for any REIT? How would its message materially differ from the great work Brad does?

  • El Paso: Avoid This MLP [View article]
'In this quarter, El Paso generated less revenue, had a coverage ratio of less than 100%...'.

For the 2nd and 3rd fiscal quarters of every year, the KM companies have a coverage ratio of less than 1. For the remaining two quarters -- and for the year as a whole -- this coverage ratios is at least.

Those knowledgeable with the KM entities are at least familiar with this.

  • Kinder Morgan Warrants: Trash Courtesy Of Goldman Sachs [View article]
Is there a purpose for your comment? It seems to be irrelevant.

Even if 'Kinder and Morgan ... and now employs many former Enron employees...,' so what? This doesn't mean KM got its start from Enron. It doesn't matter if, 'your not in the Biz....when I refer to roots, I mean people.....'

'KMI has its roots in Enron.'

Not really true. Kinder Morgan (i.e., Richard Kinder and William Morgan) started their own pipeline company after Kinder left Enron.

As a company, Kinder Morgan bought pipeline-related assets from Enron that were not being used by Enron. This buying of unused assets is the only extent to which KMI is connected to Enron; i.e., not much for having "roots in Enron."

  • Dividend Champions Ranking: Part 8, The Bantamweights [View article]
'Federal Realty Investment Trust has seen respectable growth in its revenue, earnings, and dividend, but maintains a very high PE ratio'

P/E ratios are not applicable to REITs. Why did you apply it to FRT? The applicable metric for REITs -- instead of P/E -- is Funds from Operations (FFO).
