All of the numbers quoted here are about what I would have expected for sales of pc's with Windows XP, so I'm not sure I buy the thesis that Vista was driving up the sales. In spite of the fact that savvy buyers have been reading the evaluations recommending home users look for the Home Premium version, the ratio of Basic/Premium sales is about the same as the ratio of models that can only run on basic to the ratio of models that can run premium, at least at the Best Buy/Circuit City's that I have access to. Almost all of the pc's on display now have Vista, and the Basis desktop is indistinguishable from the Premium desktop, so I think people are mostly looking at the hardware rather than the software.
