Chrysler vs. Debtholders: Who Will Win? [View article]
Who will loan these companies money in the future. Bond holders expect to be paid, before others. Looks to me like our president is paying off unions. I know that I will not throw good money after bad.
Why I Take No Issue with the Government Firing GM's Wagoner [View article]
As I have said in the past the US government should be held accountable for allowing the foreign (jap) auto companies to do business in this country while being subsidized by their governments. We were not permitted to do business in Japan but we (US government) allowed them to do business here. Do you think lobbyist had anything to do with it? I really do not ewant to spend a lot of time on this subject would like to say that I am pretty fed up with the way they are running the country. Thyey sold us down the river and now in order to cover up they are blaming Wall Street and we are falling for it.
Cars: What It Means to 'Buy American' [View article]
Agree, agree, and agree. Wish that I could have said it as well. We criticize our selves when we stress to buy American but forget that foreign governments subsidize their country’s products. That is how we lost the TV industry and are about to lose the auto industry. Think about it.

Reminds me of the 60's when the peaceniks were throwing rocks at the police and attemptimg to disrupt everything. This is not a perfect world, people should realize this and attempt to correct current problems in a civilized fashion rather than acting as children.
Who Will Profit from Mark to Market Changes? [View article]
This is all very confusing. If the value of the asset (real estate) goes down how do you treat the mortage which, in theory, still holds its value. Should this not compensate for the loss in value of the asset (real estate). I have bonds which I do not mtm since I plan on holding them until they mature, I purchased them for income. Should I price them every day?
A Reverse Stock Split Explosion Is on Its Way [View article]
I am a little disgusted with this whole stock market. I thought that I was investing for retirement, now I find that I am in a crap game where the winners make the rules and the little guy gets screwed. Even based on the above comments, you do a reverse split than they come along and short the stock to drive the price down. I purchased preferred stock, under the misunderstanding that I was in pretty safe territory and now find that it is a risk. They can suspend the payment or go belly up and I am screwed. I am not worried about price I am only concerned about the income. I know that many of you are going to say that it is my problem but when your income is tied to a dividend you can get a little annoyed.
Bank Bailouts and Trust Preferreds: Still Too Much Risk Here [View article]
This is all very confusing. I bought preferred for income and know nothing about the difference between trust preferred. preferred etc. It seems to me that all this nonsense makes it difficult for a little guy who is simply looking for income to figure out what to do. We don't all want to be sharp traders on Wall street.
GM Might Live on, Doesn't Mean Stock Will Go Up [View article]
I don't know know why all this talk ablout how great it would be if GM went bankrupt. What about all the small investors and bond holders. How much do the the pension funds have invested? The question should be 'how do we save the company not how do we sink it'. If their paycheck was tied to GM I am sure that they would think differently.

If these are not convertable preferred how would they do that?

I agree with with the analysis. If they suspend or eliminate the preferred dividend it would effect the standing of the bank and make it less attractive or possibly non saleable. Also how could they (gov't) suspend my (your) dividend and continue to pay their own. We are debt holders, they owe us the money, if they do not go bankrupt how can they eliminate the debt?
Just curious, first the politicians allowed the foreign car companies to sell their products here without a large tax. This meant that because of their low wages and government subsidies they could sell theirs cheaper than those made by American companies and made here. Now the foreign car companies gained a foot hold here and seized part of the market. I can understand that, they were cheaper, smaller but I refuse to say a better product. The media has said that but I will not put down the American worker. Now back to my original question, if the politician allowed this to happen why it is they blame the car companies and unions. Why not look at the politicians and foreign lobbyist? Just a thought.
