The Benefits of a Standardized MicroUSB [View article]
You apparently know little on battery technology evolution! a charger must take care of battery type (chemicals used!), size, max number of recharge, sometime history of charge and discharge, ... + all the optimizations (how fast, how long, temperature, ...) (this is a company know how!) needed to keep the battery alive longer ! no way to use the same charger for all phones! but same plug whatever it is, would be an advance and contribute to a little price reduction!

You may be partly right on Flash, When the Iphone was opened to check its content, it was dicovered that: Iphone had 2 types of Flash: Samsung NAND and an Intel Flash so it could be now potentially an ST Micro Flash! in Conclusion today, STmicro couls have a bigger percentage value of the Iphone. (this does not mean that they would get decent margin on the flash !)
The Vista-Driven Long Case for Intel Corporation [View article]
If you are long on Intel I understand your arguments ;o) but: taken from dedicated Vista pages on AMD web: "Today, all AMD processors are optimized for the next generation 64-bit versions of Windows Vista"
without mentioning the potential help of latest AMD-ATI graphic cards!
you start criticizing AMD, having bought an Intel based Centrino mobile !! when AMD today's processor for this same speed of 1.6GHz is offering 64 bit and dual core! with the turion64X2 but also higher than 2Ghz processors! and you initially bought a machine with 512K memory when any magazine(even non specialized!) already warned that 1G was the bare minimum for Vista ! you may understand now why it was so cheap to buy an outdated stock with outdated processor from Intel!
I agree with you that Intel improved their product line but: to use or not AMD to run Vista is not demonstrated at all by your arguments in this article. you should also be aware that Toshiba is one of the latest main laptop manufacturer to have adopted AMD processors. After HP and some other big players like DELL, ACER,Gateway, FUJITSU, ...

How can somebody pretend to be an analyst and write false assumptions ?
"If the U.S. is about 60% of the world market"
since he talk about google, If he would have just typed: "wealthy world population" he could have had a look to this page www.wider.unu.edu/rese...
and understand that the 60% he is talking about just come out of his mind fantasy !
the total number of new mobiles sold (or rented) each year has passed the Billion mark ! (it is why Apple has choosen a 1 % target of 10M ! )
following his maths, 60% would mean 600M mobiles per year. to simplify if we take the total population of USA (around 300 millions) this would mean 2 mobile per each american each year? I doubt it ! and it is even worse if you take into account the Age, the 15 to 65 years old likely buyers represent around 200M people, this would mean 3 phones each /year ? without talking about wealth to support not only the buying cost but also the phone bill! wich again reduce the potential.
but 10 million mid or end 2008 worldwide is certainly doable! the discussion on profits per sales is far more complex than a rule of three (specially when parameters are wrong;o)

to reinharden, I am not treating you "silly" You were citing numbers considering only some "developed" countries I just exposed other numbers to relativize the importance of some markets and avoid "centric views" in this globalized world.
just to give you more numbers Nokia (selling worldwide already) this week said that they were targeting 1.5 Billion customers !! 10 million then is not even 1% of this ! on one hand this means 10 million is a lot but doable on the other 10 millions is pretty small precisions I have no shares in Nokia nor Apple ;o)

Apple is buying the chips (processor, memory, audio, radio,power,...) the screen and the case. so anybody can then ! even if apple OS is good, others Oses are as good or near and then sufficients. then they still have to be telecom certified worldwide. copies from production sites area, will arrive as soon as this type of phone has success.
Iphone is not going to displace Nokia, nor LG, nor Sony Ericson soon, (Motorola will resist also!) but it sounds possible to get 10 million phone out of a 1 billion/year cell phone market.
and reinharden seem to ignore china and india out of 1.3 and 1.1 billion there is a growing number of wealthy people (soon more than in US and Europe alltogether!) able to buy expensive phones! without also taking russia and or south america into consideration some should try to not be too USA centrics when they talk economy and look at new scales in 2007 and after!

I do not like Intel but it's uncredible how an Apple "Extremist" can think ! "not invented in Apple" would be ugly, unnecessary, ... Not all smart people are working at Apple, Intel helped Apple make a comeback on Laptops and PC's why not even AMD push them higher with their quad core? please respect everybodies efforts to create something different, people are smart enough to decide if it is good for them or not!
Intel’s Next Generation Processor: 'The Biggest Leap Since the Pentium Pro' [View article]
Hi Eduardo, I agree partly with you , but it is so easy to hide behind the x00 pounds gorilla, that I prefer taking care and bet on the small ;o As I said microlithography drawing size alone is not all. and it was my first remark, Why would intel finally choose some AMD innovations if they could win only with lithography size? I was criticizing the title, and "Market Watch" (TM) titled yesterday: "Intel takes aim at AMD chip architecture" which was exactly my point! I am not persuaded that Intel has a 12 month lead in process and again, AMD partnering with IBM, SONY and I believe Toshiba alltogether may have similar R&D budget on process concerning 2.8Ghz, with different architectures, Max Ghz is not the only metric. I agree that with actual AMD communication we have not enough visibility. but Intel has so much money in the bank to fund R&D that it may be impossible for AMD to show their future too early. We can only hope that AMD if necessary may now take advantage of Intel innovations to continue to improve the "value for money" factor for the end customer or propose "new of its own!" innovations ;o))

you may have noticed the smiley in my message ;o) be cool! and I never said what you mention! for sure, Intel made an awfull lot of money! (who paid ?) it is partly why we should not encourage too monopolistic positions and the press should recognize that Intel endorsing some (at a time criticised!) AMD technical solutions finally recognize that even with a lot smaller budget , innovative companies can bring something to the party. that's all.
