a charger must take care of battery type (chemicals used!), size, max number of recharge, sometime history of charge and discharge, ...
+ all the optimizations (how fast, how long, temperature, ...) (this is a company know how!) needed to keep the battery alive longer !
no way to use the same charger for all phones!
but same plug whatever it is, would be an advance and contribute to a little price reduction!

and understand that the 60% he is talking about just come out of his mind fantasy !

the total number of new mobiles sold (or rented) each year has passed the Billion mark !
(it is why Apple has choosen a 1 % target of 10M ! )

following his maths, 60% would mean 600M mobiles per year.
to simplify if we take the total population of USA (around 300 millions) this would mean 2 mobile per each american each year? I doubt it !
and it is even worse if you take into account the Age, the 15 to 65 years old likely buyers represent around 200M people, this would mean 3 phones each /year ? without talking about wealth to support not only the buying cost but also the phone bill! wich again reduce the potential.

but 10 million mid or end 2008 worldwide is certainly doable!
the discussion on profits per sales is far more complex than a rule of three (specially when parameters are wrong;o)

You were citing numbers considering only some "developed" countries
I just exposed other numbers to relativize the importance of some markets and avoid "centric views" in this globalized world.

just to give you more numbers Nokia (selling worldwide already) this week said that they were targeting 1.5 Billion customers !!
10 million then is not even 1% of this !
on one hand this means 10 million is a lot but doable
on the other 10 millions is pretty small
precisions I have no shares in Nokia nor Apple ;o)

Apple is buying the chips (processor, memory, audio, radio,power,...) the screen and the case.
so anybody can then !
even if apple OS is good, others Oses are as good or near and then sufficients.
then they still have to be telecom certified worldwide.
copies from production sites area, will arrive as soon as this type of phone has success.

Iphone is not going to displace Nokia, nor LG, nor Sony Ericson soon, (Motorola will resist also!)
but it sounds possible to get 10 million phone out of a 1 billion/year cell phone market.

and reinharden seem to ignore china and india out of 1.3 and 1.1 billion there is a growing number of wealthy people (soon more than in US and Europe alltogether!) able to buy expensive phones!
without also taking russia and or south america into consideration
some should try to not be too USA centrics when they talk economy and look at new scales in 2007 and after!

Everybody recognize Apple has an inovator, and a fantastic innovator, (and with a bunch of "loyalists") But:
Are they at IBM, Sony, Siemens, or Samsung level (just to take a few big ones in different geographic regions?

Why,
Many different reasons, Historical,Cultural, Economical, Marketing, Inertial, ...
So far, Apple is not targeting All Markets (by will, or because of their product offering: proprietary solution excluding MS growth past a certain level!)
The MAC sales increase will not repeat at a 30% sales Growth, (Some MAC Fans, were waiting to buy the latest Dual OS 86 compatible machines and once this done (this year) they now can only count on their own MS increase which will never be at last year pace!
The Ipod also will not have the same Growth, so many MP3 compatible "sufficient" players!
Apple arrives (scheduled in mid 2007) in the Phone Market as the nth (n being certainly above 30!) phone manufacturer. Tenors, like Nokia, Motorola, Sony ericsson, Samsung, LG, (with "men*century" of experience) and so many others, will not leave their MS without a fight and appealing new products and association with major providers !
and with increasing memory size in phones, the "classical" phone makers will gain more MS on apple ipods than Apple on the phones.
Apple will certainly make its way but doubtfully at the totally irrealistic increasing speed you are dreaming of!
I just like techno like you and can afford it, but it is not the case for a large majority of people considering those products for some of their needs with their budget limitation. (recently seen on TV: Salary for a Flower cutter in Kenia? 1 Euro (1.3 Dollar) per day!!!
and do not forget the market segmentation.
to illustrate segmentation, would you buy same shoes for Cycling, Ski, Tennis, Sailing, Trekking, Football(American or Soccer!), ... certainly not ;o).
it is nice to see be enthusiastic but keep your feet on ground ;o)

I like Apple Innovation and the Iphone wil certainly please many users
but it is not because something is new that it's going to be as successful as you say: 30 Millions in 2007 (with shipping starting mid 2007)?.
all the functionality of the IPhone are already available from many different manufacturers internationally.
and the iphone today, is not the best offering in all the funtions.
why also do yout think multimedia phone manufacturer have added keyboard?
not because it is bulky, cost more, ..
it is because of customer demand! customers have asked for keyboards
so who will not buy?those looking for:
higher camera resolution (Mega pixel rules even if the optics is not good!)
more Memory (compared to best MP3 players)
keyboard
higher speed transfer 3G and or Wimax
Larger screen
light weight,
On time
cost,
battery charger ;o)
provider other than Cingular (the Nokia, Motorola, sony-ericson and co will not abandon those potential million customers easily! having already clos relationship with the major providers worldwide)
...
I do not say that another phone exists with all this features, but only that the market is segmented
Apple will take a share but not the millions you hope.
