  • Microsoft Ditches ARM On Its Smartphone Lineup?  [View article]
So you you're saying we're turning back the clock ten years to the time before Apple came with the idea that we need a separate app for every thing?

  • Samsung deal fizzles Nokia's patent sales forecast  [View news story]
That's exactly what I mean. Nokia has no intentions to start making phones themself but licensing brand and technology to others is another thing altogether.

"Nokia could design the new handsets and then licence the designs and Nokia name to as yet un-named partner"

Not this phone fud again. Nokia has said many times that if it returns to phone market it will be through licensing Nokia brand and technology to 3rd parties. Judging by this Samsung deal I think Nokia should not even bother to do that.

Apple of 2016 reminds me more of Nokia of 2009 without the NSN network safety net.

  • Why Microsoft Prefers Apple For Apps  [View article]
I don't really see why you would even need an app to browse SA or any other web sites. I follow a couple of dozens sites daily both using my WP phone and Android tablet and it would be a nightmare if you'd need an app for every one of them.

  • Why Microsoft Is The New Apple, Except For The Valuation  [View article]
This is exactly what I've been saying since the first Surface tablets surfaced a few years ago. With the Surface devices MS is setting the standard for the OEMs to compete with either with lower priced devices or higher quality devices which both are good for the expansion or the Windows ecosystem. MS has no interest to compete with their OEMs or otherwise they would have already introduced sub $100 Windows tablets.

  • Why Apple Still Leads In Mobile Devices Over Microsoft And Google  [View article]
What I meant is it's not vital to MS who in the end makes Windows devices as long as users end up using MS services instead of Google services and as long as the user base of Windows ecosystem keeps growing. Since the first Surface devices I've considered them to be firstly reference implementations of Windows devices setting the standards for the OEMs to compete with their offerings and secondly, to generating income to MS and so far this is exactly what has happened. MS has no intention to kill OEMs or even strangle them and become Apple in this sense.

Microsoft can't be overly aggressive with pricing because it has to think of all the ODMs and not to compete with them. MS has no intention to become the only company building and selling Windows devices so it has to leave enough room at the lower end of the price spectrum for ODMs to compete in. In the end it's not so important to MS who builds the Windows devices as long as the end customer uses MS services.

So following your math 17% share will equal 100% profitshare? Somehow I don't think it's so linear.

  • Microsoft: Reimagining Personal Computing  [View article]
To the reputation of Windows laptops and desktops it definitely was a mistake. I don't think that setting a high standard for a Windows laptops in 1990's would have hurt their software sales but would have prevented Apple's devices from gaining the status of superior quality products compared to their Windows counterparts.

Yeah, grown to whooping 7% or so in ten years. I bet in 2025 it could reach mindblowing 10%.
