  • Toxic Debt: Wall St. Puts Lipstick on a House of Cards [View article]
One of my biggest complaints about the Obama administration is their seeming reluctance to fundamentally change the way Wall Street is able to get away with such shenanigans (I consider it criminality myself).

  • Investing in Natural Gas: It's Time  [View article]
I have a generally favorable opinion of the Obama administration, but I do think they're missing the boat on NG. At the minimum, steps should be taken to start building the infrastructure to allow most of the trucking in this country to run on NG.

I've heard we have 1 1/2 times the energy equivalent in NG reserves as Saudi Arabia has in oil. This indicates to me that eventually, the NG train will get rolling. And there will probably be no better time than the very near future to go on board.

  • Another Citigroup Scandal: Business as Usual for Wall Street [View article]
Hi Jeff, great article. I'm at a total loss as to why there aren't man;y more articles like yours being published, exposing this type of malfeasance and outright criminality that has been commonplace for many years and continues unabated.

I was wondering if you've considered writing an article about the various types of manipulations going on in some of our "free" markets. Seems there would be plenty of fodder for this type of article as well. -- Good work.

  • Auto Batteries: Short Term Revenue Growth Favors Lead-Acid by 6 to 1 [View article]
Thanks D. McHattie for your inquiry about Exide, and thanks John for your reply. I had been looking for a good explanation as to why Exide had gone down so dramatically recently, and now feel more confident of their future. Everything I had been able to find told me they were a good company that would bounce back, and that now was a good opportunity to buy, which I did this past week at 3.12. -- Thanks again.

  • Axion’s Lead Carbon Batteries: Sweet Spot for Micro-Hybrid Vehicles? [View article]
RE: """My biggest worry about Axion is all the warrants issued on the stock."""

I was wondering if anybody might explain what the above means as I'm considering buying some Axion stock soon. -- Thanks

  • Oil: Is It a Bullish Rally or a Sucker's Rally? [View article]
The price of oil scenario, both short-term and long-term, can change dramatically for any number of reasons. One of the major "wild cards" I see:

Whether the Obama administration starts sending signals it wants to reduce reliance on oil, and look to abundant and cleaner natural gas as a bridge to new, alternative fuels. Apparently, Rahm Emanuel (influential White House chief of staff) is in this camp.

Anything could happen. My bets Oil will pull back from its recent runup, but shortly after begin a fairly gradual upswing in prices over the next 1-2 years.

  • Critiquing John Petersen´s `The Plug-in Vehicle Scam`  [View article]
Realist2, I've enjoyed your posts. It surprises me that many others here don't seem to appreciate your reports of real experience with electricity powered transportation.

I don't have good technical expertise, but I can't help but think that a new paradigm shift similar to your own experience could quickly become part of our transportation culture. I look forward to that day. Which I suspect may come sooner than a lot of people might think.

  • My Oil Outlook [View article]
When I read articles like this, I notice it is seldom mentioned that any projections of future oil use/price could be vastly different (downward)if we would only build an accommodating natural gas infrastructure and take advantage of a world-wide natural gas surplus.

  • U.S. Economy Looks Ready to Bounce  [View article]
Perhaps, but with the prospect trillion dollar deficits for as far as the eye can see, I'm afraid any economic bounce dependent on excessive government deficit spending is going to be relatively short lived.

  • The Plug In Vehicle Scam [View article]
Me thinks there may be too many assumptions in this article to use such strong words like scam. One assumption I would challenge is whether large numbers of Americans would buy PHEVs with such a limited range. Get us back to $4.00-5.00+ gasoline prices for extended periods of time, and I think a lot of people will quickly make the tradeoff.

But is a tradeoff even necessary? I'm no expert, but can't the limited range of PHEVs be significantly enhanced by adding a small generating capacity to keep the batteries charged while driving?

With the cost of electricity (in inflation-adjusted dollars) continually coming down in price, and the cost of fossil fuels likely to increase, it seems efficient PHEVs will eventually become ideal replacement vehicles. My guess is it will happen sooner than this article would indicate.

  • Banks No Longer in Crisis Mode [View article]
When somebody speaks with a great deal of certainty about the state of the banking system, they lose credibility. Any pro or con argument can be easily countered. A lot of shoes could still fall, and if market sentiment begins to believe this, financials could easily collapse again.

  • Are the Banks Telling Us the Truth? [View article]
Until we get a Warren Commission type investigation of all the fraud involved in the financial meltdown, I will hesitate to trust either Wall Street financial institutions or a US government that allows them to keep covering their tracks.
