I don't like the thought of further manipulating the free market place. It seems to me that this type of policy would eventually lead to a huge bust, as keeping the S&P artificially higher than where the free markets dictate is not sustainable. Also - I'm assuming taxpayers would be required to fund this manipulation... How much would that "fee" cost us?
Going into the future - such manipulation will surely take a toll on the value of the USD. If anything - I'd like to see creativity and energy put into creating some sort of a 'precious metal' backed currency...
