what i did has no effect at all on jrcc. i sold because i'm highly skeptical that jrcc can weather this period, as are many anlaysts. it's not the end of the world. i lost 1k in jrcc, but i'd rather lose 1k than 5k. so i sold, and i am going to concentrate on daytrading anr, btu and wlt. and i have made back what i lost on jrcc on wlt, as long as it stays in this range, i'm fine.

yes but more importantly, their outlook was really depressing. i didn't read anything to cheer me up in the 2nd quarter transcripts. this is going to be terrible for quite a while. fortunately, it didn't seem to hurt wlt and btu.

i don't see how they can survive in this environment. this is a period of consolidation as the entire industry is going to shrink. these next few quarters will be brutal on cash flows.

well, i dumped my jrcc today. maybe prematurely, but alpha's results were so bad on liquidity i am hard pressed to imagine that jrcc won't be belly up in the next several months.
but let's remember that mark anthony is making millions!
More on Alpha Natural Resources' (ANR) Q2: Recorded impairment charges totaling $2.5B driven by current market conditions and lower expected production and shipment levels. Again cut its full-year shipment outlook, lowering the top end of its 2012 eastern metallurgical coal shipment guidance by 1M tons; now expects shipments of 20M-23M tons. ANR -1.4% premarket. terrible, terrible, terrible. the big question now becomes whether or not anr can hang on through the cash crunch until things are better. i'm readying myself for anr in the 5's. last quarter was a serious cash burn, no matter how you try to dress it. anr can't sustain much of that. what a terrible quarter for cash management.
i see now why they have done no share repurchases. because they're waiting for the stock to go in the 4's, and even then they'll have to take up an office collection to buy back a single share :)

if you want to play natural gas, buy a natural gas company like CHK or one that directly is tied to the industry, like CLNE or WPRT. the idea that ge is going to boom from nat gas in a significant way that really moves the stock is laughable. it's simply too diversified. ge will benefit more than anything from a decent economy and good global growth. that's true.... but to cast them as a big nat gas player makes no real sense.

the statement by alpha management that "it's too soon to judge the merit of the massey aquisition" ... pretty much means "this was a major tactical error and we're in deep doo-doo." wow, this really casts the coal industry in a bad light, whereas most others were able to beat estimates. the outlook here is, in a word, terrible. this bodes very poorly for jrcc tommorrow.

all in all, i see this as minor. ge is a global company, and the build out will be in the u.s. - i'm sure ge will get some participation, but i'm not impressed with this as a catalyst to move the stock. there is infrastructure galore being built by many others already. sure, it would help. heck, ge is so diversified it's unreal. last night i went to walmart and bought the most deluxe crock pot they sold. guess who made it?

obviously you don't understand the global use of coal, or why there has been switching to gas (because it's cheaper). the idea that there's that much gas cheap and easy to get at is a myth.
when gas goes high, people will be screaming for relief. economics will win out. yes, coal is dirty. and yes, oil is dirty. coal use will grow for the long foreseeable future.
the ultra cheap natural gas that has fueled the recent switch from coal is about to disappear, because it's been produced below a sustainable cost. nat gas goes back to $5, and it will be much, much cheaper to burn coal. and guess what utilities will do?

all you got to do is hang on to your NG stocks that aren't going to run into liquidity disasters. chk is proving it's capable of weathering the storm. we are clearly at the beginning of a long NG bull market, though we might have a dip if there is a mild winter.
i've got chk and sd, getting ready to invest in clne. i don't see ge as a player in this market to the extent it's going to make any great contribution to its stock price. yeah, it would be nifty if they made a $500 ng charger for home gas lines, but it's not going to move the stock enough to matter.

it is sheer lunacy to be burning natural gas for utilities and destroying the coal industry while sending huge $$ out of our country for oil. first and foremost, natural gas needs to be used for transportation. why isn't the government behind this? because big oil has bought the political system. the american taxpayer is the one getting bent over a (oil) barrel.
thankfully, the wait for anr is almost over! luckily, it's before market. :). if anr doesn't hold at 6.00 by the 18th of august, i'll have to change my avatar to myself wearing a barrel instead of clothes ...
if anr is bad, jrcc will really go down the toilet instead of just swirling around the bowl.
