  • I Cannot Find A Catalyst To Move Alcoa [View article]
i've been trading these stocks extensivley for a while now. i'd say the floor is in, but if it's not, it doesn't matter. they're very volatile, and i've made good money daytrading these.

well, it if goes there, it goes there. that's why you need to be diversified :). nonetheless., there's going to be a lot of high dollar engineered aluminum products in the future. i'm not going to worry about it where i'm at. if you sell the call now, you're be in at 7.70 should the price drop.

i'm more focused on the coal market, where i think there's a faster return. i'm going to let this one ride.

haleiwahu, i think we've seen alcoa's floor. i could be wrong, of course. i don't think you have any worry at 10.42. why not buy more here and sell the $8 option? that way, you're covered if it drops and you get in really good in the 7's. if it doesn't drop, then you made money from the options and you lowered your basis by the option amount.

you could buy at 8.46 and sell the $8 oct call for 76 cents. do this for 2k shares and you are either in them for 7.70 or you lower your basis in your 10.42 stock by $600. of course, i wouldn't do it unless i wanted more alcoa because it *could* go down below $8.

you know, i don't have an exact date. tsk. i would suggest that we have seen the floor for alcoa, and a buyer here would be happy in a few years. aluminum displacing steel in the auto industry will become a trend that demands a lot of the stuff because autos have to become lighter to get better fuel economy. ford's move with the f150 is hugely bullish for aluminum. are you unaware of this? and if not, then why don't you mention it in your article/comments?

yes, prices are low now. yes, the global economy isn't looking so good. but if things were humming along great guns, you couldn't buy alcoa at 8.40 ish.

for disclosure's sake, i'm in alcoa at about 8.70 and i wouldn't be a seller here. if alcoa drops significantly, i am buying more.

how about the fact that auto manufacturers are going to be using aluminum alloys to replace steel in order to lighten vehicles for better gas mileage? ford is going to be leading the way with the new f150.

alcoa is FAR from dead. i would get in (as i already am in) before this rocket blasts off. aluminum is going to boom.
