  • Madoff's Investors Don't Deserve Compensation or Sympathy [View article]
I just don't feel sympathetic. Poor Ruth is having to survive on 2 1/2 Million but my bet is that she knew of the scheme. What are the special tax breaks they are receiving? I lost $50,000. on a Lehman Bond, is the government going to give me a "Special Tax Break"? I followed all the rules and did diversify, so I guess I'm better off than a lot of other people.

  • Seven Reasons Why the Coke-Huiyuan Deal Failed [View article]
Let's face it. You only work or invest in China on their terms. If they allow you there, it's because you have some technology or expertise they want or need. My husband was secunded to a Chinese Power Company by an American Company to assist in building a Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong Province. The French were the primary contractor, but the Chinese needed a partner to assist them, thus the American Company. They invited my husband and I to Beijing and took us on a tour of a Coal Fired plant outside Beijing. It was an older plant but in immaculate and clean condition. There were three generators within the plant, they showed us the first two, "These were made by the Russians". When we came to the third, (which was identical), he proudly professed, this one was made in China by Chinese. So you see, the Chinese USE foreigners to get the technology they need, and once they learn it and don't need you any more, you're out the door. American companies are playing right into their hands.

  • As Mortgage Rates Plunge, 30 Year Fixed Rate of 3.5% Seems Likely [View article]

A 3 1/2% mortgage rate sounds inconceivable to me. The first home my husband and I purchased in the early 60's was $8900. and we still had to make a downpayment. The rate was 7 1/2% which was the norm then. We have a generation of people who seem to think they have an "entitlement" to have a home. Some people just shouldn't own houses, either because they can't afford them or because they don't know how to maintain the property. The Government should stay out of this mess. The large majority of people are paying their mortgage on time.
