The news is all out and the Dow is down 350 points. So much for my ability to read charts.

With regard to the banks, will this be an example of buy the rumor and sell the news? One thing that would counter that is that the rumor has a pretty weak buy (see the chart). My reading of the chart is that there could be a further buy on the news.

Utilities and Biotech ETFs: Shining Stars During Terrible Trading Days

The fact that staples have not been performing better is unusual for a recession, where they traditionally are a top defensive group. I guess this is reflecting fear that the recession will be severe enough to significantly reduce individual expenditures for staples.
