  • Ford unveils new F-150, built mostly with aluminum: Will customers approve? [View news story]
Hard to tell if the heavy user will accept, but the buyer who likes the ruggedness of a pickup truck but just occasionally uses the bed for heavy use, will probably appreciate the increase in fuel economy as a result. Don't think the towing capacity should be effected by the switch to aluminum.

  • Apple Will Drop The Firm Hammer Of Justice On Short Sellers In 2014 [View article]
I think you would get new money entering the stock if AAPL did a 10 for 1 stock split. I know the arguments that it doesn't change anything, but it does make buying a 100 shares realistic.

  • Microsoft: Promise Has Become A Problem [View article]
I only wish the CEO would come from a list of the business world's best. Me. Softee is an inbred giant, who will always promote from within, sadly.

  • Superchargers As A Profit Center For Tesla [View article]
Would it not be better for the entire electric car industry if Tesla required other electric car manufacturers to also build similar charging stations rather than have licensing deals to use the SuperChargers?
Just like we have generic gas stations with different brand names, they are all pretty much the same despite Madison Avenue trying to convince us one is better than the other.

  • Microsoft Should Avoid Corporate Superstars And Source Its CEO Internally [View article]
I believe the corporate culture, as promoted by Mr Ballmer, is dismal. Name a Mr. Softee alumni who became financially successful. Paul Allen is the poster child for the old joke, How to make a small fortune? Start with a large one. Insiders are too internally focused and can't see the forest for the trees. Just look at Mr. Ballmer and his clones.

  • New reports of 5C/5S order shifts; Apple can pursue Samsung injunction [View news story]
I was in one of the Las Vegas Apple stores yesterday, and my wait to talk to someone to buy an iPhone 5s was 45 minutes. The place was packed.
I remember reading just how difficult the iPhone 5 was to manufacture (many rejects due to quality issues) and that a "redesign" might be in order. That may be the 5c,since the 5 is no longer available. Maybe we are misreading Apple's rational for making the 5c. May not have been to offer a cheaper phone, but to simplify manufacturing and keep margins up. Long Apple.

  • Apple reportedly slashes 5C production in half [View news story]
My recollection was that the iPhone 5 was more difficult (read costly) to produce than expected. So now AAPL isn't going to offer the iPhone 5, but offers the iPhone 5C, with all the "guts" of the 5, but presumably less difficult to manufacture than the 5, resulting in higher margins. And this is a bad thing?

  • Microsoft wants to hire new CEO year-end [View news story]
Name one former Microsoft executive that went on to become successful elsewhere. I suspect it is the culture at Mr. Softee that has held these people back. Promoting from within would not be a good thing for Mr. Softee investors (especially Mr. Elop after what he demonstrated at Nokia).

  • AllThingsD: Ford's Mulally now heads list of Ballmer replacements [View news story]
Elop did not turn around Nokia, it drove it into the ditch! The last thing MSFT needs is yet another inept CEO. Go with Mulally, although he is no spring chicken.

  • Icahn, Cook meeting on Monday [View news story]
2puttwo Good question on the buyback. I suspect unless they retire the stock, as opposed to calling it treasury stock, I suppose they could "release" it to the market at any time. However I suspect there would be SEC disclosure requirements up the ying yang.
Then a junior analyst would call foul and say unless the stock is retired, it must be counted in the earnings per share calculation, etc, etc. Good question though.

arabjalo, I agree. Just like O'bama couldn't create the mess we are in by himself, he has thousands of government regulators to help. But wait, maybe he did do it by himself....

Rocback I think you are overly optimistic about our paper tiger SEC. Otherwise I agree with your views.

  • Icahn bought "quite a bit" of Apple today [View news story]
I'm sorry, I want Tim Cook to succeed, but the iPhone 5c was a non starter. What were they thinking? This was to be Apple's way to get smart phones to the masses by offering a lower price. It was to be a catalyst for the next revenue gain. It was incremental revenue that otherwise would go to another vendor because there are a lot of people in the developing world who can not afford an iPhone. I think sales of the 5c will be terrible until they lower the price.

  • Icahn bought "quite a bit" of Apple today [View news story]
Yes she did, but our honorable members of congress will not. For awhile it appeared they were embarrassed over the revelation that they could trade on info obtained at open or closed meetings, so they passed a law making them equal to us citizens. Then decided that was too difficult, and canceled it.

  • Apple gets license to run phones on China Mobile's network [View news story]
A bit disappointed on the 5C phone. Not much less than what an iPhone 5 would have cost had they kept it in production (past experience being a guide). Any speculation when the iPhone 6 will be announced? Might be worth the wait.
