  • GoPro Goes Berserk  [View article]
Read somewhere that part of their strategy was to have users submit their raw video for a free rework to make an interesting clip. Only condition was that a copy could be placed into GoPro's library to generate content.

I have thought that the next thing for your car would be a dash mounted camera. Already very popular in Russia (which is where we get a lot of those horrific car crash videos). Have it on a 30 minute continuous loop, maybe even stored in the cloud, and you have a defense against someone running a stop light, etc, etc. If GoPro could come up with something like that, I think there would be a large market for it.

  • MX Engines Will Drive PACCAR's Growth  [View article]
With all the talk about Class 8 (The big trucks) converting to natural gas, what effect would that have on PCAR's engine program? Are their in house engines available in NatGas?

  • Apple Needs To Succeed In BRIC Countries To Grow, But Its Chances Seem Slim  [View article]
It never fails. There are endless articles about android phones outselling IOS phones, like anyone cares. As investors, it is about profits, not units sold. Apple leads the pack in profitability, and will continue to do so.

My wife is Russian, and whenever she goes back for a visit, she brings one of our old Apple products to leave with family. Always a big hit. Apple is an aspirational product in BRIC countries, not so much here where they are considered "affordable".

Taxes in many countries favor the local product. I think an article about who is making the profits in cell phones would be more informative than articles on who sells the most widgets.

  • Apple wins $120M from jury in Samsung dispute, far short of $2B it sought  [View news story]
At some point, one has to wonder whether these lawsuits and counter lawsuits benefit anyone but the lawyers. It has to be a distraction to say the least. With technology moving so fast, by the time the suit reaches the jury stage, everyone has moved on, and the products the companies want to get an injunction for, are usually no longer even offered for sale. A waste of time, money and effort for the satisfaction of corporate ego.

  • Westport Innovations beats by $0.02, beats on revenues  [View news story]
What is going on with WPRT? Cummins is off to the races, and WPRT stock goes backwards. All the talk about natural gas powered class 8 trucks seems to have disappeared. Anyone have any info how the natural gas powered garbage trucks are working out? They seemed to be the test group, since they return to a central location every night, so no need for extensive infrastructure like the over the highway trucks would need.

  • Government reportedly wants more than $13B from BofA over mortgages  [View news story]
To add to the list of corrupt practices by this government, lets not forget how the stockholders, bondholders and creditors of GM were treated. They all got the shaft so the unions could be protected, and the 20 billion pension liability due the unions was left intact. Would not touch Government Motors with a ten foot pole.

  • Ford unveils new F-150, built mostly with aluminum: Will customers approve?  [View news story]
Hard to tell if the heavy user will accept, but the buyer who likes the ruggedness of a pickup truck but just occasionally uses the bed for heavy use, will probably appreciate the increase in fuel economy as a result. Don't think the towing capacity should be effected by the switch to aluminum.

  • Apple Will Drop The Firm Hammer Of Justice On Short Sellers In 2014  [View article]
I think you would get new money entering the stock if AAPL did a 10 for 1 stock split. I know the arguments that it doesn't change anything, but it does make buying a 100 shares realistic.

  • Microsoft: Promise Has Become A Problem  [View article]
I only wish the CEO would come from a list of the business world's best. Me. Softee is an inbred giant, who will always promote from within, sadly.

  • Superchargers As A Profit Center For Tesla  [View article]
Would it not be better for the entire electric car industry if Tesla required other electric car manufacturers to also build similar charging stations rather than have licensing deals to use the SuperChargers?
Just like we have generic gas stations with different brand names, they are all pretty much the same despite Madison Avenue trying to convince us one is better than the other.

  • Microsoft Should Avoid Corporate Superstars And Source Its CEO Internally  [View article]
I believe the corporate culture, as promoted by Mr Ballmer, is dismal. Name a Mr. Softee alumni who became financially successful. Paul Allen is the poster child for the old joke, How to make a small fortune? Start with a large one. Insiders are too internally focused and can't see the forest for the trees. Just look at Mr. Ballmer and his clones.

  • New reports of 5C/5S order shifts; Apple can pursue Samsung injunction  [View news story]
I was in one of the Las Vegas Apple stores yesterday, and my wait to talk to someone to buy an iPhone 5s was 45 minutes. The place was packed.
I remember reading just how difficult the iPhone 5 was to manufacture (many rejects due to quality issues) and that a "redesign" might be in order. That may be the 5c,since the 5 is no longer available. Maybe we are misreading Apple's rational for making the 5c. May not have been to offer a cheaper phone, but to simplify manufacturing and keep margins up. Long Apple.

  • Apple reportedly slashes 5C production in half  [View news story]
My recollection was that the iPhone 5 was more difficult (read costly) to produce than expected. So now AAPL isn't going to offer the iPhone 5, but offers the iPhone 5C, with all the "guts" of the 5, but presumably less difficult to manufacture than the 5, resulting in higher margins. And this is a bad thing?

  • Microsoft wants to hire new CEO year-end  [View news story]
Name one former Microsoft executive that went on to become successful elsewhere. I suspect it is the culture at Mr. Softee that has held these people back. Promoting from within would not be a good thing for Mr. Softee investors (especially Mr. Elop after what he demonstrated at Nokia).
