  • Comparing Large Oil And Gas Names Working U.S. Land Plays, Part II [View article]
I am no fan of the idea of selling oil assets to China. Let them buy the oil . They force American Co's to mfg in China to gain access to Chinese mkts. If they want outside capital let them joint venture with CNOOC. I also think CHK is tying up millions of Bls of oil and gas that does not show on books. The accountants don't allow you to count unproven reserves as assets, but they are there. Don't own CHK but I do own CLR,RRC,EVEP and WLL trying to decide on DVN or EOG for Eagle Ford play

I agree with most of your comments except that you were not aware of a major sell off of MLP's during 2008/2009 you must not have checked your accts. Any check of charts would have shown 40 % plus sell off. In fact last week was another date as well as the flash crash. These all allowed you to buy at a substantial discount

While many of the facts are true!! His conclusions are not based on reality. While hedge funds where liquidating in 2008 I was buying. In my opinion the infrastructure required as the oil reserves in new areas are being exploited will provide growth opportunities for MLP's. In the near future you will see more oil and gas supplies will be coming from domestic sources at the expense of OPEC and others.

I hold positions in pipeline and midstream MLP's

Well In my opinion you are in trouble !! When the market tanked in 2008 my income increased and I reinvested the income as it came in . The end result was my income doubled and so did my portfolio. Long term investing is the only avenue to keep up with inflation. If sell out now and invest in bonds you will lose money on your bonds and they will not earn enough income to pay the taxes and keep up with inflation

I would still say if you take proven reserves at a fair mkt value the value is much higher then current mkt price times outstanding shares. Have you ever run the numbers ?

I wonder as these reserves are accumulating why someone other then me is valuing a company by the amount of oil that is still in the ground. Both WLL and CLR have so much oil in reserve that speculating on hedges and current production might be irrelevant

  • How About a Strategic Long-Term Energy Policy Now? [View article]
As democracy spreads around the world even Pres. Obama will realize that his small group of followers cannot dictate the solution because they want to. In this country if developing natural gas is the correct solution it will happen. His policy of supporting imports and developing biofuels and solar will prove incapable of solving the problem and he will change or he will be thrown out of office.

The real solution will be that all companies need to stop waiting for Washington to act and start developing the assets and demand that is required.
Therefor I agree with your solution and If the profit is there it will happen. Washington is not the solution but the problem.

I don't think your correct !! We have just as much a problem in building out electric infrastructure. The infrastructure for LNG and CNG is much simpler If we install at all truck stops we could start by converting new trucks to nat gas. The problem of ramping up nat gas supply's is easier then you think . As the demand for gas increases many of the current wells that are shut in will ramp up quickly.

I agree in fact a lot of the infrastructure is already there. If you just consider all truck stops would be ready for either nat gas or lng by just adding storage and pumps. The technology for vehicles also exists. There are manf of of OEM engines as well as conversions. The real cost saving will come when manf designed vehicles with either compressed nat gas or LNG are built in. Nissan has a vehicle already
to market as soon infrastructure.is in place. The problem is we have a president that is more interested in a agenda rather then what is needed to move forward

lets see how these technologies do without subsidies. Most readers will not remember Pres Carter's push for oil from shale. Many billions of Taxpayers dollars down the drain.

If you don't want coal or nat gas until something better comes along then I hope you like bicycles as we are very close right now to losing our major source from Mideast. The CIA and OB administration is nuts if they think can replace coal and oil overnight. Nat gas may only be a bridge product However its the lowest cost and cleanest fuel we can bring on line in less then 5 years. Had we started after 911 we would be sitting pretty right now.

A lng is not propane it is liquid nat gas. Did you ever see a gas tank explode. I would prefer a steel compressed gas tank over a plastic gas tank that cars use now.
