  • App fragmentation could be a problem for BB10 (BBRY -1.4%), warns Strategy Analytics' Neil Shah. Whereas the touch-only Z10 has a display with a 1.67:1 aspect ratio (1280x768 resolution), the QWERTY-sporting Q10's display has a 1:1 ratio (720x720 resolution). That means developers, many of whom are already inclined to write for iOS and Android before BB10, have to "specially tweak" apps originally written for the Z10 to work with the Q10 (and soon the Q5). Thorsten Heins declared last month there are 120K BB10 apps available, up from 70K in January. [View news story]
In addition to the above 2 comments, I would just like to add a thought: most Q10 users are business oriented -- apps are not overly relevant to them.

  • The Most Important Thing To Know If You're Using Stocks As Fixed Income [View article]
Good article except for "Blackberry -style irrelevance" -- you lost me there.

Maybe you should take another look -- times have changed, but it's not a dividend stock.

  • BlackBerry Week In Review: Bears Take An Unsuccessful Swipe [View article]
Re an acquisition by MSFT (or anyone else): Firstly Blackberry is not for sale -- why should they be at this time, and in process of a successful turnaround?

Secondly, Why would BB users ever want to transition to MSFT's os?
Crash prone, and altogether inferior to BB's QNX based os -- I don't see this remotely happening.

  • Early feedback on U.K./Canadian BlackBerry Q10 (BBRY -4%) sales indicate volumes below expectations, says Cleveland Research. The firm also thinks Z10 sell-thru is likely half of what it was around launch time, and believes BB10 build targets for the next few quarters could fall to 6M-8M from 10M-12M. Likewise, Pac Crest remains bearish, and calls the U.K./Canadian Q10 launches a "mess." The remarks follow a pessimistic note about BB10 sales on Monday from Canaccord, and one on April 25 from Wedge Partners. Jefferies has been more positive. [View news story]
All bearish analysts anyway -- what else is new?

  • A Bullish Case For BlackBerry, The Death Of Tablets And A Strong Q10 Launch [View article]
Firstly, Selfridges has an area devoted to Carpheone Warehouse stock -- and they are very keen on the Q10 -- so guess what they are marketing. It is not merely a clothes store -- I would have expected the Wall SJ to know that before making a ridiculous comment like that.

Secondly, I didn't see Heins say that the PHONE will replace tablets (if he did, please point out where he said it) -- he is thinking much beyond phones , perhaps hubs of connectivity or something of that sort. I think Heins is being misread by a lot of writers.
