US is spending itself into this position. The author didn't account for this and only looking at trade in one narrow focal point. To use the dollar reserve to threaten countries with a positive surplus in trade with USA would mean the faster demise of the Dollar since one of the many retailations from countries that hold our dollar reserves will include dumping the dollar for a new global currency.
This article asked where the money went? How about upgrading their infrastructures from East to West? How about promoting incentives so their own people can easily afford more amenities? How about heavily investing in Renewable Energy so that it is dubbed as leading the pack, even ahead of US's current push towards it? Sure there are problems here and there, but they are not blind to these factors and are adjusting to changes so far.
Using stock to gauge China's progress? Which REAL economists use that as the main economical indicator? At most it represent investor confidence through speculation, not hard economical data. Do you think China is dumb enough to repeat how the US stock market and our economy bubble burst during the last year or so?
By all accounts, the internal demand within China is kicking up to support their numbers. No where I see this information in this article. The China Bust theory had been going around for decades but haven't seen them collapse so far.
So let us wait and see how they are doing in the next half year. Perhaps another bunch of people will eat their words of a "China Bust".
