Stratos International: A Smallcap Optical Value Play (STLW) [View article]
Nice write-up. I do have one follow-up question. What kind of timeframe are you recommending for a play in STLW? My concern is that although they are a cash flow positive company. they have been aggressively cutting expenses, including R&D, which I believe leaves them in a poor competitive position in the next 1-2 years. From my experience in the semiconductor space, product development takes 12-18 months (on average), therefore cuts now will result in a dry product pipeline in 1-2 years - making this a poor long-term investment. However, if your play is to simply benefit from the short-term pop attributed to Steel's recent offer, then it may be a decent buy.
