Passionate finance and business reporter; active markets learner & speculator, passive (almost non-existent) investor/trader. Current Business Editor/biz dev @ Benzinga; Contributing Editor @ Detroit Independent. Former DJ and on-air host; senior writer and Columnist @ CM-Life. Future Ed. @ Rolling Stone - a girl can dream. Today the Mays Report™ has become an operating unit of Mays Research™ and is expected to restart operations and relaunch the Mays Report™ web site sometime during 2016.
Mays Research™ is an independent investment research firm focused on the food production value chain from upstream seed and fertilizer companies to downstream food retail and distribution companies and supermarkets.
Our approach to analysis requires us to perform in depth research and analysis in the equities and alternative investments asset classes. Within those classes we cover companies in both the consumer staples and basic materials sectors in the equity asset class as well as the grains and livestock futures markets in the alternative investments asset class.
This firm was originally operated between June 2009 and August 2014 as The Mays Report™ and initially specialized in fertilizer stocks as well as the grains markets. I am a market enthusiast and part-time trader. I started writing for Seeking Alpha in 2011, and it has been a tremendous opportunity and learning experience. I have been interested in the markets since elementary school, and hope to pursue a career in the investment management industry. I have been active in the markets for several years, and am primarily focused on long/short equities.
I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lehigh University, where I double majored in Finance and Accounting, with a minor in History. My major track focused on Investments and Financial Analysis. While at Lehigh, I was the Head Portfolio Manager of the Investment Management Group, a student group that manages three portfolios, one long/short and two long only. I have had two internships, one a summer internship at a large bank, and another helping to manage the Lehigh University Endowment for nearly a year.

I'm an analytical engineer working in the aerospace industry. For more than 20 years I was a mechanical stress analyst, using programs like ANSYS to predict stresses. My current assignment focuses on statistical analysis of material properties data to estimate the safe limits for critical jet engine components.
I'm also a part-time professor, teaching statistics to engineering technology students.
My stock analysis method uses seasonally adjusted predictions of future revenues and earnings. Using Ben Graham's value formula, I estimate the current fair price of a stock. I only buy stocks selling for less than 50% of this calculated fair value. I only consider companies who's revenues are so consistent that my regression models account for no less than 95% of the scatter in the data.
