  • A Disciplined Investor's Recap Of Realty Income's 2014 Annual Report [View article]
Great article, Brad, and thanks for mentioning a buy price for O. My question: as a REIT, does an investor merely claim dividends on their tax returns? A REIT is not like an MLP, correct? I just finished my tax returns with dozens of K-1's to report. I've had it--I'm done! Now seeking simple interest and dividend payers!

  • Seadrill And Transocean Will Lead The Rig Market Recovery [View article]
I agree but not for the same reasons as jesus7. Trying to punish Russia has created the fall in price, IMO. It has little to do with the small but plentiful US drillers.

  • How I Bought Royal Dutch Shell [View article]
I've been asked the question of which one to buy several times so I appreciate your detailed post. Learning about the credit for foreign taxes, I chose class A shares for myself (my account is not an IRA). I will share your explanation with others--thank you!

  • Terra Nitrogen: Paying Less For Dividend Income [View article]
Thanks for sharing this information. I had no idea this arrangement existed. The General Partner could buy all outstanding units when the price is down under ones cost! I doubt this would ever happen though.

  • Terra Nitrogen: A Fertilizer Company To Help Your Money Grow [View article]
Farmers will always need TNH's product. There are few competitors. The distributions are always higher than most stock dividends. Yes, a K-1 is much more difficult to report at tax time than a simple 1099-DIV, but the benefits outweigh the extra work. I've been long on TNH for about 10 years and have never thought of selling it.

The other benefit of MLPs is that your beneficiaries inherit your units at their market value on the date of your demise.

  • AT&T: A Near-6% Yield Now On Sale [View article]
T may be a good investment at $30 but only for its dividends.

As a customer of AT&T, I am totally dissatisfied with their new uverse service. It is unreliable and my monthly bill continually increases. Its greatest competitor, Comcast Cable, gets all T's dissatisfied customers in my area and I may join the crowd!

  • Transocean Continues To Bleed Profusely [View article]
5 YEARS?!! I highly doubt that, but am curious as to why you think that. Are you simply guessing?

  • If history's a guide, AT&T shareholders should celebrate Dow exit [View news story]
My AT&T bill continues to increase every other month! Hard for me to invest in a company that does that without providing better service. (Very slow internet.)

  • Should Noble Corporation Follow Its Peers In Cutting The Dividend? [View article]
Agree. You only have to look at SDRL's price fall after eliminating its dividend, although management's assurance of a safe dividend through 2015 was also a factor. Sure, Nobel could reduce its dividend, but why anger its shareholders? I'd bet the majority of investors today are seeking dividends to supplement their income. Cut the dividend and there will be a sell off.

  • Wells Fargo likes Linn Energy's financial position but stays Neutral for now [View news story]
I've been around a bit longer than you, philio50. I remember gas at 22 cents a gallon but back then most cars only got about 8 mpg!

Our neighborhood banks usually paid 15 to 17% on 1 year CDs so I never looked for other investments until rates went lower than 4%. It takes some time to adjust to not having guaranteed dividends/interest yet alone your principle. No one likes losing money--at any age!

  • Williams Partners L.P. (Newly Merged Partnership) Reports 2014 Financial Results for Pre-Merger Williams Partners and Pre-Merger Access Midstream Partners, Updates Guidance [View article]
I'm still not sure if this merger was a benefit to me, a long term holder of WMZ. My broker's statement has yet to clearly state just how many units I now own! There are several calculations that I don't understand, but you may be correct: we now own fewer shares than before!

Hopefully, mgmt. knows what they're doing and it will be beneficial down the road. Time will tell.
