Failed Bearish Technical Setups Could Be Bullish Signals [View article]
Too much money is chasing stocks instead of being put to productive use. Consumer confidence is still lacking. Unless the fiscal stimulus is curtailed soon, another stock market bubble may be in the offing.
It is ironic that while top Indian software and services companies concentrated on the USA and Europe markets to procure outsourcing contracts, the IBMs and Accentures have been making inroads into India's nascent domestic software services market, beating the likes TCS and Infosys on their home grounds!
Chinese Equities Enter a Bear Market [View article]
In a blog post on Aug 9, the technical indicators led to my observation that the Shanghai Composite may have a bigger fall if the support at the 50 day EMA (around 3100) was broken.
The China index fell all the way to the 200 day EMA, from where it bounced up today (Aug 20, '09). So the bull rally in a longer term bear market seems to have survived for now.
Tata Motors: Value in India's Emerging Markets [View article]
Tata Motors is India's largest truck maker. Cars are not their main business. Their earlier attempt, Indica, was hardly an engineering marvel. Production of Nano is nowhere near full-scale and it may be a couple of years before they start churning out volumes. Profits from Nano won't cover the huge debt burden of buying Jaguar-Land Rover.
But India's economy is on the mend and truck sales have started to pick up. That is good news for the company and the shareholders. Some equity dilution can't be ruled out.
Rising NPAs of Indian Banks Not a Cause for Concern [View article]
Since a large number of Indian banks are owned and strictly regulated by the Central and State governments, the kind of mindless wild-west frontier mentality displayed by the US banks in introducing 'sophisticated' and esoteric derivatives did not happen.
But the rising NPA's - however small in percentage terms - will haunt the more adventurous banks, like ICICI, in the days to come, even if it doesn't push them towards insolvency. The stock market tends to favour banks with lower NPAs.
In India, Google Searches for Users with Print Ads [View article]
The print media in India has a wider and deeper reach than the Internet. The new government's policy is to increase the access to Internet in the hinterland. Google is probably trying to ensure that it stays top of mind.
'Cash on the sidelines' is an enduring myth in the secondary markets. I agree with 'Egg'. 'logicalthought' should think of another pseudonym. A re-reading of Dr John Hussman's articles on the subject is also recommended.
