Sirius XM Finds New Ways to Fill Its Proverbial Bucket [View article]
With the old Clear Channel/now Sirius management being so out of touch, faded and disconnected... "The Sirius Bucket List" would be a better title and article.

There's that pesky satellite TV I've mentioned. I'm hoping Charlie pulls the chair right out from under Mel. Many of us still remember Mel's terrestrial past. Who better to run a satellite company than somebody like Charlie Ergen that understands it?

Thank you for being honest to admit that Sirius XM is a luxury... and that means it is not going to be integrated across the range of all classes... and that means growth is limited.
I don't mean that in a bad way......... just a realistic way of thinking way.

[This article brought to you by a website with a top header banner that says Why Wal-Mart is Doomed which is brought to you by the Motley Fool.]
Sure, this website has had limited success from a nickle to 60 cents... but what about all the time it was wrong as SIRI crashed down thru to the bucks to that nickle? (How soon they want you to forget.)
It would seem that this website is not seeking alpha... but seeking a showdown.
IF... SIRI files bankruptcy... who will you believe then?
IF... SIRI has a reverse split... who will you believe then?
IF... SIRI does not reach 1 dollar by the end of the year WITHOUT a reverse split or any other outside cash injection... who will you believe then?
It seems this website has staked their entire credibility on these 3 things as their cheerleaders have stubbornly waved the SIRI pom poms, blindly no matter what.
Readers... consider the source and make your own decisions. This website plays passionately to the investor's heart... but don't let that misguide your wallet.

SIRI stock price brutally beating investors......
Sirius XM subscription rate hikes forcing down number of subs......
Charging for online access to further isolate and limit exposure......
and now, CEO Mel Karmizan springs a $250,000 pay raise.
Don't you think Sirius XM could have made better use of a quarter of a million dollars at a time when they are awash in heavy debt... than to give it to the person most responsible for driving away the most customers?
FYI: Former multi-subscriber over here. Found alternatives to Sirius and have been saving my money for more important things. Feel much better knowing I'm not feeding Mel Karmizan, Howard Stern, Martha Stewart, Oprah Winfrey and a bunch of other over-paid sat-rad duds.

Sirius Management & Mel's Minute I want readers to consider this about the management of Sirius under Mel Karmazin.
Mel's Minute "Mel's Minute" is a phrase from his days overseeing Clear Channel operations, in which he demanded 1 more minute per hour of commercials on broadcast radio. The phrase developed and is a mocking of just how out-of-touch he is with how to run a radio company that hinges on listeners listening without changing the channel.
Consider how this "Mel's Minute" has translated over time. Those who despise terrestrial radio for it's barrage of commercials has Mel to thank, and you the Sirius subscriber are railing against the policies Mel implemented by making the move to satellite radio. How ironic!
Now here's a new one for you... "Mel's Music". Consider how bland and creatively void Clear Channel's programming had become over the course of the last several years under Mel K's management. Repetitious song lists are synonymous with Clear Channel, and were ushered in by the now leader of Sirius... Mel. And the number one complaint with the merged Sirius XM music programming... repetitious airplay of very narrow play lists.
These are the lasting terrestrial legacies of Mel K... and now he is poised to turn Sirius XM into something else you will loathe.
Management is the problem with Sirius XM. Investors know this... and you should too.
What's all the smarmy know-it-alls got to say about today's cut in half haircut?
Let me guess.... it doesn't fit your self-educated calculations. Hard to explain how this love-stock could treat you so bad, isn't it? Just can't imagine Mel & Co. make you look like complete hot-air buffoons. Shocking. And all the cheerleaders who rooted you on..... how could your limited wisdom let them down like that? Kind of hard to imagine which is the bigger fool now. Is it the leader..... or the follower?
Perhaps you all need a group hug..... to tell each other every thing is going to be all right and Mel is going to coming riding in and save you all from humiliation. Try to razzle dazzle each other by throwing a bunch of fancy Wall Street words and acronyms around.... and then make claims how SIRI is testing a new low, so other new readers think you really know what you are talking about, when really you & I know better, and know you don't have a clue. Good luck with running your mouth much more than your ears.
Maybe next time those fakes won't be so eager to criticize others. Maybe now they will understand that Mel doesn't give the first flying flip about them and all their flag waving.
Please, and you know which ones I am talking to, please explain how this happened to such market scholars as yourself?

Your comparison of the luxurious apple to the luxurious orange exposes how out-of-touch with reality you are. A re-occurring expense of 15 per month does not compare to the one time purchase of the multi-use of an iPod or designer blue jeans. That kind of reasoning is quite simply immature.
Smoking, drinking coffee or alcohol or eating... compared to a premium radio service? Are there any substitutes to the smoking of tobacco? The answer is no. Is there a substitute for a cup of coffee? No. Will an alcoholic substitute water for beer, whiskey or wine. No. BUT.... is there a comparable substitute for satellite radio. YES! Plenty... ranging from terrestrial to Pandora, last.fm, Slacker to iPod to music programmed TV channels to multiple online radio sources.
The point is... of all the things you mentioned that the "poorest" purchase... if times got tight... (which they are!)... WHICH will be the first to get the axe? You can stick your head in the sand and believe whatever you want... but the rest of the intelligent world KNOWS a luxury item will get cut loose first. And movie ticket sales, alcohol sales, and coffee sales have not suffered near as much as satellite radio. The deeper the economy suffers.... you may see some those other items start to suffer.... but right now.... people will always chop satrad off before they will eating, drinking or smoking.
So your liberal hair-splitting of what the definition of luxury is... is nothing more than elitist preening and quite obviously you don't understand... which underscores my point of just how out of touch and uncalled for your tantrum really was.
