"Neither company owns the software in it's machines" Wrong. Garmin owns a great deal of the software in it's machines. I would go so far as to say they probably own more software in their machines than any other gps device maker. AsK NVT, ask SIRF, ask TI. They know.
"the company will struggle to innovate at a similiar pace" Garmin has been innovating at a rapid pace successfully for over 10 years - almost six years as a public company. The pace has increased lately, if anything. It's Garmin's greatest asset, and they know it. They are flush with cash and hiring engineers by the hundreds. It is highly unlikely the pace of innovation will slow.
"Neither Palm nor Garmin manufacture their own products" Wrong. Garmin manufacturers all their own products, and nobody else's, in their half million square feet of factory in Taiwan. This is easily verifiable & widely known. Garmin is one of the most vertically integrated electronic manufacturers in the world. I don't know about Palm, but this is just one of many examples of mistakes in this article and reasons why Palm is not a good comparable for Garmin.

Huh?
