Is GeoEye Poised to Take Off?

I personal use GeoEye's products at work every day. I work for the government and have to say the anticipation of this satellite going active has been building everyday in my office.

This satellite will provide a better image than anything on Google Earth with much better accuracy. The key here is accuracy, the accuracy of the images u see on Google now is horrible. (By GIS standards)

Digital Globe had the best color commercial satellite beating GeoEye's Ikonos satellite by almost 1/4 of a meter. Digital Globe will be losing a lot of business to GeoEye-1 once it goes active. Now GeoEye will be beating them by about 1/4 meter for public imagery.

Some say we are in a recession, but we are talking about mostly military and government buying power. Plus some of the bigger Mapping firms like Navteq have to buy new imagery no matter how bad business is.

FYI...

GeoEye is not selling images from the GeoEye-1 satellite yet due to calibration errors with the satellite. This is a software problem and was supposed to be fixed last month but still no news on the problem.
