2009 Outlook for Medical Device Stocks

Perhaps the most salient impacts of the current financial environment for healthcare, at least that we see, are the funding squeeze for small, early stage medtech companies (leading to acquisition) and the big hit on elective (cosmetic or otherwise) procedures and deferred cap equipment purchases. We will keep an eye on the pace of startup formations, which have been surprisingly steady in 4Q 2008, but will have to decline in 2009.
