In 1918 running water, bathrooms, sanitation, standards, laws, rules, technologies, water plants.......were essentially non-existant. It is why dysentery killed so many soldiers in the civil war - pre 1900s and World War 1. Think about Mexico - a country where so any of its residents flee to the US becasue its infrastructure is still backwards, lacking, and well..."don't drink the water."
You've gotta know a guy like this looks in the mirror everyday thriving on his general assertions, lacking specifics, and only dressing up political garbage. They make this guy sound like he adds something new to finance of for that matter basic budgeting. Also, is this guy even a citizen of this country. If not....his nationalization statements are even more less credible. He comes to the US where freedome reigns and wasnt the government to limit freedom like the limits in the country he came from....and every otehr country outside our nation. Nothing new here.
Sheila Bair - World's Worst Regulator - to Stay at FDIC [View article]
She comes across as one who could also be an ineffecitve local school board president or someone who fits well into a benign investigational panel. That's what government is looking for. She has not independent thoughts or ideas. But....since the political lifestyle is neat....she'll say whatever keeps politicians and the media happy. I think they also like the name...say it quickly...Sheilabair..... a stage name. So she's got the willingness to comply and a stage name....that's all you need.
What are you talking about. Americans work exceptionally hard for their after-taxed wages and returns on investment. Its time for politicians to do what's best ofr America and not themselves. I remember the quick and admirable headlines right after 9-11 and the Hurricanes in America and every tragedy around the world since oh....the past 100-plus years that Americans do do the right things a lot. We keep other nations afloat and defend people we don't even know and have nothing in common with. There is a heart in America that beats mightilty...that's why so many people want to come here and become citizens or go to school here and then go back and do whatever it is they do outside America. We have an admirable freedom and care for humans that no one else has. We work very hard for our families and to do the right things. Tought we all fall short every day in word, deed, action, or inaction, the people of America are very different form their political leaders who take, take, adn take and then take more. Always blaming something other than themselvers. Its time for America to get back to the Constitution, BIll of Rights, Declaration of Independence, and it reliance on the one true God in whom we trust. If you don't want that.....then good luck to ya.
Banks: Nationalize, Cleanse and Get It Over With [View article]
Definitely written from the right side of the Atlantic. The nationalize midset is natural in an already socialized (or nationalised and socialised if you come from the right side of the Atlantic) set of countries with a futile mindset where opinion does not matter and free speech is essentially humor and overnight Bloomberg reporting. That's it. Why not simply get rid of mark-to-market accounting, let everyone (yes everyone in America) refinance or lock in at 4-4.5% 30 YEAR financing and then allow the loans to mature. The massive majority of loans will work out and cash flows will come in with at most - AT MOST - 5% default/foreclosure/to... default. Every effort thus far - TARP, et al. - is made by politicians to benfit politicians. Since Europe lost its freedoms 100 years ago and became a nation of neutered, albeit neat accent, people, social, national, and state chartered items seem natural to them. Don't let that happen to America. The idea that politicians are changing so much is tragic. Not one leader has stepped up with a pro-people, pro-nation, pro-free markets plan....anyone wonder why?.....or why not?
Bank Investors Beware, Shareholder Interests Are Secondary [View article]
Thanks for pointing this out. It is a significant issue. Shareowners will be sacrificed for the sake of politics. Preferred securities are the new common. It is sad that we are floating toward becoming a dull neutered nation like Europe. How sad to see America give up on capitalism for....what.....tempor... politics. I heard that Sheilabair (needs to be said in one word) of all places the FDIC is backing a national bank. Pretty sick. After this round the government will control or have interests in every area of finance - student loans, home loans, insurance, banks, brokers. And not one Nobel Prize winner has the guts to say a word. Not one elected official has resisted this disaster of freedom. The arrogance of a government that harms its citizens was in the past only appropriate for the third world. Now its the favored American approach. Seem extreme? It would be if it were not true.
