  • Goldman Should Settle Before SEC Case Goes to Court [View article]
[Quote #1] "The culture of arrogance instilled by Goldman CEO along with a general feeling of infallibility led the firm to severely underestimate the repercussions of this suit."

Replace "Goldman CEO", with " the U.S. Government"

[Quote #2]"This is how Wall Street works. There is always another side to a trade."

Replace "Wall Street", with "The U.S. Government"

[Quote #3] If the U.S. government is unable to contain the financial sector, it can expect to be the next casualty of the markets along with fellow bail-out governments.

    Replace "If", with "When"

My point (short version) - The U.S. government can no-more contain, then can it accurately monitor or responsibly police anything, including the "financial sector".

    Best Wishes,
    Jon

  • Obama's proposed budget underestimates deficit growth by $1.2T over the next decade, according to a report (.pdf) from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Publicly-held debt will balloon to $20.3T by 2020, amounting to 90% of GDP, and costing the U.S. more than $900B/year in interest payments.  [View news story]
I credit (no pun intended), BlueOkie for the phrase "redistribution of debt".

    Nice !

  • State and Local Governments Increase Jobs: Even the Experts Are Shocked [View article]
I suppose then, that while local government workers were not collecting pay checks at one point in time, the job-hiring continued?

As a professional driver, I enjoyed your [Mark], " ...crack addicted junkie driving his car at 120 mph, swerving left and right but for now staying on the road?" analogy. <big-smile>

    Great article...
Perhaps if / when the market returns to a more-normal condition, money will move out of the 2X 3X ETF's , and back into individual stocks.

  • Sweet rally in last 15 minutes [View instapost]
[quote]"This is the largest volume spike I have ever seen on a Friday close."[end quote]

Now that's quite a statement, and echos what more and more people are saying. As a non professional in the finance / investment world, I find this theory, opinion, suspicion, or what ever it is, to be getting a bit crazy / scary.

From TraderMark - " ...while the "heavily taxed" in the top 1-2% seem to be accelerating their wealth. Dumb luck I am sure ;)" [end quote]

I'm learning that some of those top 1-2%'ers don't bother to pay some of their taxes...

Oh... and Spam has always been "Hot" in Hawaii !
