  • Chinese Are Likely to Halt Purchases of U.S. Treasury Debt [View article]
Friction between China and USA exists in the markets and in the real world where 'unarmed' American USNS Impeccable ocean surveillance vessel gets uncomfortably close to Chinese territory.

U.S. Defense Department says "We are going to continue to operate in those international waters and we expect the Chinese to observe international laws around them."

Officials at the Chinese embassy in Washington did not return calls seeking comment on USNS Impeccable. However Premier Wen Jiabao expresses concern about the outlook for the U.S. and the safety of its Treasury bonds.

  • Apple: Bulls More Bullish, Bears More Bearish [View article]
I've talked to friends in advertising and graphic design about the economy they tell me how many of their friends and colleagues in the field are losing their jobs. When consumers stop consuming, corporations slow down advertising, creative types lose their jobs. So who's going to buy that slick Mac Book Pro (@ $1999 and up) or Mac Pro (@ $2799 and up). Who's going to buy movies and music on iTunes when there are free alternatives (maybe illegal alternatives but people are saving where they can). Who will buy an iPod&iPhone when their old iPod keeps playing. Come September tuition, rent and food will be priorities, a new Mac will be an unaffordable luxury for most students. That is if they can afford or find a student loan to go to school.

  • New York Times Results: Digital Revenues Down, Overall Picture Bleak [View article]
Catch a Falling Knife - You are right that Mr. Krugman's Keynesian economics aren't working for the NYT. They should name Henry Merritt "Hank" Paulson Jr. as CEO of NYT to write bailout cheques. In his spare time Paulson may even write an op-ed.
