Yen Carry Trade: Dire Threat or Poltergeist? [View article]
So how much bread does the MOF/BOJ have to throw into such protective actions? With debt at 176% of GDP how much can the manipulators manipulate in your opinion? Their track record is not stellar, is it?
Why is the Yen Carry Trade Unwinding? [View article]
This, as most post about yen carries, is pure conjecture. Maybe, commodities pulled back because of the "commodities carry trade". I can make more than a 4% spread by shorting gold. Also, why didn't you sell yen if you were so sure?
Talking about carry trading as "unwinding" also seems a joke. The reality is closer to mere mouse clics, which means that people will go in and out of it. We are probably closer to a good yen carry entry than anything else.
Buffett typically sells calls to pay for puts (i.e. collar). This is just about as conservative as any strategy gets! He has been invovled with derivatives for years and years( and that is not a bad thing). Cheers from osaka, john

Investing Over 10 Years: Stocks vs. Bonds [View article]
Greetings, I would be interested to see this analysis if bonds were leveraged to have approximately the same risk as stocks. Perhaps, that is more of an apples to apples comparison.

Respect The Fed's Knowledge On Economy [View article]
Nice piece. I think your points are well taken. I guess some wealth errosion through the U.S dollar is in part the sticking point. That is what causes people like Jim Rogers and Marc Faber to get upset. It is just we live in a global world and the fed is acting on national interests. If you are a global citizen, it is rather disturbing to have to avoid your own currency, because somebody somewhere (probably not Dr. ben) did something stupid. just my naive 2 yen's worth... john
