  • Apple Is Running Out Of Cash To Raise Its Dividend [View article]
    Give me a break, "Hu".

Only Samsung makes the profits from the sale of cheap Android devices, but Apple makes all of the profits of high-end devices and is trouncing Samsung in that area. If you're a manufacturer, you need to make profits off of hardware. Apple does this, Samsung does it to a far lesser degree.

  • Apple Should Buy Out Comcast [View article]
It would make more sense for Apple to invest in next-gen wi-fi that is slowly rolling out. This could conceivably end up replacing both wireless and cable over time.

  • Apple Should Buy Out Comcast [View article]
There would be no overlap of corporate culture in such an acquisition. Comcast would be a massive millstone around Apple's 'neck'. These things make sense on paper, then reality intrudes.

Understood. I'm also only basing my speculation on public domain information.

  • iRobot Will Ride The Robotics Trend In 2014 [View article]
iRobot sells military robots and consumer robots. How is this a "one product" company?

  • Sifting The Apple Rumors: iPhone 6 [View article]
I agree, sapphire coated glass will probably not be a part of iPhone 6 and it's probably a safe bet that a larger screen is in the works.

Beyond the seemingly obvious though, what are the predictions based on the behind-the-scenes patent reveals and many small company purchases?

Will we see a dramatically better Siri? Another type of sensor built-in (perhaps infrared)? A camera array for improved post-processing of images (variable focus, change of camera angle, mathematical models to allow "re-lighting" of scenes)?

  • Actually, Apple Should Buy Nintendo [View article]
Apple doesn't need Nintendo, Nintendo needs to sell their games on the iOS App Store and get out of hardware. Shigeru Miyamoto should start his own app dev company. He IS Nintendo.

  • Quantifying Apple's Strategic Errors [View article]
A well argued case is worth consideration. One argued from a short position and full of holes is easily discounted (as can be seen in this thread with many excellent counter-arguments).

  • Quantifying Apple's Strategic Errors [View article]
Apple's perceived error in judging demand for the 5c may have been a failure to recognize the desire of their real customers, not the siren song of Wall Street. Apple customers don't need and don't want low prices, they want the very best quality and are willing to pay any price. Leave the low- and no-profit products to the Samsungs of the world.

Mike, by what criteria do you decide to purchase a product? Price? Appearance? With such a mixed bag approach, don't you feel you've given up a lot having to do with device interoperability?

And don't tell me you like Android more because of their "openness". You don't strike me as a content thief.

They don't make a habit of releasing poorly conceived products. This is why they have far fewer releases.

On the other hand, Samsung has gone so far as to release a second generation of a watch product that has no consumer interest. They are more likely to drop out of the so-called "smartwatch" category as Apple is likely to enter the category.
