  • Apple (AAPL) contract manufacturer Foxconn hid underage workers in advance of an inspection last week by the Fair Labor Association into the health and safety conditions at its plant, a watchdog organization claims. Apple recently said FLA was beginning inspections of the Foxconn facilities in China, which reportedly turned up "tons of issues."  [View news story]

In my opinion, the last great time to "swing for the bleachers" was in 2008 and 2009. I'd sit tight otherwise.

  • Without Jobs, Apple must show it can still deliver [View article]
Don't kid yourself. Apple is one of the best managed companies on the planet. They are nothing like the pre-returning Jobs Apple Computer of yesteryear. As Apple, Inc. they have a firm focus on markets and products that will keep them in the green for years.

  • Market recap: Buffett's gift to BofA (or was it the other way around?) failed to save U.S. stocks, as a mystery selloff in German equities derailed an early rally. Apple shares fell on Jobs' resignation, but far less than the broader market. Treasurys and the dollar rose amid a broad flight from risky assets. Now it's all eyes on Jackson Hole tomorrow. NYSE losers led gainers four to one.  [View news story]

  • Republicans pounce on the Atlanta Appeals court ruling against the President's healthcare law, saying it confirms their argument: "ObamaCare" must go.  [View news story]
No "we" don't. Government getting as far away from the healthcare industry would be the best thing that ever happened. Let the market decide what makes sense and let competition reign. If anything, it's as good an argument for legal reform as anything.

  • Patent Wars Are a Major Threat to Undermine Google and the Android Opportunity [View article]
Baloney! Patent law is an essential part of our property rights and is protected by the Constitution.

Once patents have been divulged as part of the patenting process, competitors are free to out-innovate the patent holder (if they are capable of doing so). The process is slow and imperfect but should not be eliminated wholesale.

Once "first to file" is implemented in the US, making it identical to it's European equivalent, it should significantly reduce the number of legal battles to decide who really owns a patent.
