Oversupply Issues Plague Solar Manufacturers [View article]
The bottom line is that unless you create goods, you are feeding on crumbs and your economy, your standard of living, your everything depends on somebody else. That somebody else will establish the standards of safety, quality etc for you, and that somebody else is the MANUFACTURER. This country better wake up and start helping the manufacturing sector with all the adjacent engineering associated to it, or we’ll find out that it can be worst quality that Wal-Mart products. Installation jobs? People, in 2 years the products evolve and will require no installation and there you say by-by to the crumbs that you are content with now.
Priming the Pump for $20/Gal. Gas: Interview with Chris Steiner [View article]
Simplistic, to say the least. The author will make money selling the book at Target, Wal-Mart etc. I don't see the point in discussing this "Life after people" Discovery channel style here.
Solar Companies Fear Delays as Feds Work Slow Magic [View article]
Weeeell, Mr. Vrozos, when you hire people you start shearing in the profits. The idea here is to have the sun shine on your property, create heat, than steam.......electricity that will transform into cash. Didn't you notice that lately grid become an epidemic?
Republicans Offer Alternative Energy Bill Heavy on Nuclear, Oil Drilling [View article]
Who’s going to build nuclear? Who’s going to own and sell the energy? How fair will the competition nuclear-solar-geo-wind be? Is the government going to subsidize some and leave the others in the dust? I do agree that nuclear should be part of the solution. California should join all other states in a new National Energy Regulation and equal benefits, so earthquakes are not an issue.
The Coming Economic Collapse, Part 1 [View article]
I, as many with manufacturing exposure, knew this. I’ve been saying that by 2012 US will not afford to buy from China (or Taiwan, Philippines ….) anymore. US will have to start producing locally. Unfortunately I do not see the education system supporting this idea. They never did seriously, so the manufacturing was relying on the emigration department for professionals (same as Canada). Well, professionals with foreign education will have no incentive to move to US in the future. I’ll make sure my children speak more than 2 languages. I appreciate your effort to synthesize the situation, even if it takes 3 pages. Thanks.
I was wandering when you’ll stop advertising AXPW’s products as the best el-transportation alternative. While the advertising side of your articles was annoying, I have to admit that I appreciate the wealth of information it was wrapped in. This time, the aroma of the article as well as of some commentaries is dramatic, and I do not see anything negative in the death of the electric car. As I said before, there are other solutions for powering 4 passenger cars that have a brighter future. Hydrogen is one, and more are in the works (protonex.com ) or will be discovered. The universe is full of energy and can easily support the big car, truck, railway, air transportation. I love my motorcycle but I’ll keep my 1 ton truck. The Chinese are on 2 wheels mostly because of the traffic jams, not because they cannot make bigger cars. Regardless of the form of energy we’ll gather from the universe, we’ll need to convert it to electricity, between other forms, and store it, because machine tools, air condition, toasters, light etc will use electricity for a long time. I repeat myself when saying that the national – world grid is the main field of competition for the electric energy storage industry where companies will succeed or fail, and not the transportation ind. Maybe it is the time to change the “alternative energy transportation buzz” from electric cars and batteries to other energy sources. What companies are involved and what kind of technologies are they embracing?
Axion Power: Time Is Right for Gas Guzzlers to Dual Mode EV Conversions [View article]
I gave up crunching numbers to see what alternative is economically sound after the realization that what you pay has nothing to do with manufacturing costs anymore; you’ll be charge based on the historical cost of the goods/services regardless of the technology involved. And while I am environment supportive (between other things, I plant hundreds of trees every year), I will not convert my F350 17miles/gallon diesel unless is for hydrogen and I can break even in a year or less. I have a feeling that over 95% of similar truck owners fall in the same category. I see all the alternative energy industry as a bunch of hyper people trapped in a cave, running in all direction with no leadership. Some will find an exit, but lots will never do. The scientific community should be hired by the government to show this people the way out. Where we stand now, almost any long position is a gamble, but significant profits can be made through short term speculation. Am I wrong?
