The current $.39/shr quarterly dividend vs the current and projected quarterly earnings do not project financial viability or sustainability of the current dividend rate... deficit quarterly dividends do not bode well for the viability of future dividends, at the current rate, not withstanding your projection for an increase of the share price based on what ???... I have owned significant positions in SFL, but, currently do not... I'd like to establish a new position in SFL but do not have the confidence you project in SFL’s current performance... No doubt I do not understand your assessment of SFL and therefore remain a confused Money Maverick…

  • Microsoft (MSFT -11.2%) board members are in talks with activist investor ValueAct over the firm's demand for a board seat, Reuters reports. Sources say Microsoft's lack of CEO succession planning is a prominent issue in the discussions. Steve Ballmer, who has plenty of critics, has previously suggested he'll leave in the 2017-2018 timeframe. Nomura argued earlier today Microsoft's poorly-received FQ4 results and FQ1 guidance could lead to an activist push. ValueAct owned just 0.4% of Microsoft at the end of Q1, but its stake is believed to have risen since. Shares +0.6% AH. (more on Microsoft[View news story]
Mr Balmer is also known as "Balmer the Write-Off King"... I can't think of one significant new Service or Product that he was responsible for during his tenure as CEO... a BIG MISTAKE for MicroSoft and it's share-holders, of which I am a long-time Owner... it's time to provide Mr Balmer with the incentive and impetus to begin his life's work... for someone other than MicroSoft... No doubt some will interrupt the near-miss on Revenue as the end of the world... but, it appears they're effectively managing their operational costs and the EPS will react positively in the coming quarters

  • Much more demand for ultra-deepwater and jackup rigs means "much more room to run" for offshore drillers, Credit Suisse says. The high percentage of future earnings currently tied to rigs under construction has been a drag to the stocks, the firm says; Ocean Rig (ORIG) is an example of one that trades below book value and net asset value as much of its fleet is now under construction. [View news story]

  • Will Microsoft buy Barnes & Noble (BKS +5.8%)? The bookstore chain shoots higher in early trading after a Barron's article pitches the case that the retail business is worth $19 a share alone. The crux of the argument is that Microsoft (MSFT -0.2%) would be smart to buy the company to jumpstart its retail business and set up a store-within-a-store concept to boost sales of its tablets. [View news story]
Anil92691... Point made... I agree with your suggestion re 200 sq ft in a Target and/or Walmart... the normal daily foot-traffic in a Target and/or Walmart store is significantlly greater than the foot-traffic of the aggregate annual foot-traffic in a B&N store... a no brain'r... Mav

Conceptually this move seems reasonable... but what is Microsoft going to do with the remainder of Barnes & Noble's retail STUFF, and debt, if any (i.e., books et al)… Unless someone corrects me, Microsoft knows NOTHING about how to retail anything other than software to an esoteric customer base and Computer Operating Systems to OEM’s... buying storefronts with all that STUFF is OVERKILL and not a good move... it's like buying an entire Supermarket Chain to sell a new tropical fruit that no other entity has access to, but, you know nothing about Super Markets and/or how to manage them.... Microsoft continues to be distracted by ill-conceived expedient illogical attempts to market High Tech STUFF... in a book store ??? Go figure ! ... Mav

  • Google (GOOG) paid Apple (AAPL) $701M in traffic acquisition costs last year in exchange for being the default search engine on iOS, estimates Morgan Stanley's Scott Devitt. He sees that figure rising to $877M this year and $1.1B in 2014. With Microsoft (MSFT) reportedly raising its offer for making Bing the default iOS engine, Devitt believes Google is now providing Apple with a 75% revenue cut. Those numbers drive home Android's importance to Google's future. (previous[View news story]
I project a law-suit in the near-future... can you say "collusion"… even though you know there’s probably no proof or empirical data to support the allegation... you know there's a lawyer gathering data to initiate the All-American process to ensure SUCCESS…i.e., to advantage ones-self at the expense of the efforts of others.... aka, the American way !

  • 40M Windows 8 licenses have been sold thus far, a Microsoft (MSFT) exec boasts, while adding the upgrade pace is exceeding that for Windows 7. It's unknown, however, if this figure includes enterprises who have access to Win. 8 through a subscription, but haven't necessarily upgraded. Otherwise, 40M would be an impressive figure for such a short amount of time, especially in light of industry conditions and reports of tepid enterprise interest. On Oct. 30, Steve Ballmer claimed 4M Win. 8 upgrades were sold in the first 3 days of availability. [View news story]
Recently added to our position in MSFT... motivated by the low share price and 3+% dividend... anticipating appreciation over time... no plan to sell, but a spike in the Share price would be comforting... MSFT stock should react to favorable sales of Windows-8, and hopefully sales of Surface will follow... Investors who believe in MSFT will be rewarded... 40M copies equates to a significant increase in revenue... Mav

  • Microsoft Long Call Condor: Profit From Flat Trading [View article]
MicroSoft stock is a decent source of dividends at the current stock trading price. If MicroSoft strays from it's strength, licensing Operating System Software, hopefully MicroSoft will secure their hardware manufacturing partners, to equitable financial terms and long term contractural comittments to ensure success. Recent history re acquisitions and residual results (write offs) is NOT exemplary, and proves you can't buy success. Time will tell whether current forays into the hardware arena is beneficial to long term owners of MicroSoft stock.
