  • Akamai Acknowledges It's Not Delivering HD Video to the iPhone [View article]

The real win here for the consumer is that Akamai is providing access (via their network *to* iPhones) to a vast source of quality programming.

HD. Not HD. 1x1... 1M x 1M... whatever... consumers love the iPhone... consumers want content... content... content...

This all makes Akamai a *huge* winner. Business 101.

  • Solar Energy: Bright Prospects for Asian Electronics Manufacturers [View article]
    Great article!

Good coverage of a new emerging strategy coming from one of the best emerging solar companies!!!

And, yes, it is unfortunate that they weren't able to get financing/benefits/sup... to stay in the US.

  • Evergreen Solar’s Shares Continue to Slide [View article]
Ok... apparently Citi came out with a "hold" today and a price change from $6 to $3...

Listen to the actual audio from the conference call, and the Citi analyst in particular, before you put any "stock" in the Citi evaluation. Be your own judge...

  • Evergreen Solar’s Shares Continue to Slide [View article]
Evergreen is most certainly making a shift in its strategy. Can anyone blame them for making a shift in their strategy in the face of the worst economic times in almost century? Since they have been unable to find financing during these unbelievably difficult times for banks and financial firms of all ilk they have come up with a creative way to continue to manufacture more and more of their product, Important to note, of which, they have already sold $B's of said product to be manufactured.

You are, strictly speaking, correct that a few analysts "...questioned the company’s ability to survive" on the conference call. That said, the questions regarding the financial ability to survive were answered without any uncertainty whatsoever. Evergreen Solar has enough cash to complete Devens buildout ans survive. What is in question, and where the new model comes into play, is whether they will be able to manufacture enough product to meet the future committed sales contracts.

I do hope that when they announce their new model, utilized sub-contractors, that you give it fair coverage. I for one am expecting it to enable them to sell more product, more quickly... something they are limited with today as they have sold out all their existing production capacity.

    ---

btw, you're reference to "some of the analysts, who have cut their share price targets"... only refers to *one* analyst. Yes, only one analyst of the many who cover Evergreen has cut a target price. Without more detail on the new model this would appear to be a rash and reactionary cut...

  • Evergreen Solar Shuts Pilot Factory, Takes $25 Million Write-off [View article]
I agree w/the comments above. Evergreen is doing much better today and is widely expected to be profitable in 2009. The degree to which they take off comes down to financing for their *next* plant.

If they execute on their current Devens plans the analysts will be back and they will rise.

If they get funding for their next plant the share price will take off and analysts will be falling all over each other to talking about the spectacular rate of growth they can achieve.
