  • A Fuel Debate Between T. Boone Pickens vs. Fred Smith [View article]
How can you say Mr. Fred Smith is a disgusting anti-worker scumbag? First of all, that is a very immature way to express yourself. Second, anyone who has followed Mr. Smith's work ethic and grit to work his butt off even when people told him he was wasting his time knows that he is definately not "anti-working". And third, what other trucking company has previously given not only their management, but their entire workforce including dockmen and drivers an annual and quarterly bonus? There very well may be another company, but not that I am aware of, and I know that Yellow or Roadway would not and have not given their "labor" workforce any bonuses. We all know that unions are the "anti-workers" of this industry, and if YRC doesn't show you that, then I don't know what will. While a union member tells you to "slow down, save some work for the next guy", a FedEx worker is saying let's get it done, let's service our customers, let's do right things right. That type of attitude comes from the top, and the top of FedEx is Mr. Fred Smith. I have been fortunate enough to see both sides, and I would honestly not take a one year union contract worth a million dollars. I worked the union for 7 years, and I was miserable the entire time. I was an outcast because I worked my butt off. That is an obvious problem, and a stock price today of $2.88 for YRC, and over $58.00 when Yellow and Roadway merged should tell you who has the "anti-working" attitude. Thank You

  • Are FedEx and UPS Being Diminished Digitally? [View article]
I hear your case, but I also believe that as things change with the way other companies do business, i.e., electronically, FedEx will change with them and find a way to continue doing business with these companies. Maybe I am just a hardcore FedEx fan, but I believe it is valid because of how Fred Smith has showed over the past 30 years that he knows how to change and adapt to different economic and business situations. You are right, technology will change things, but look for FedEx to change with it and not only survive, but thrive and grow.

  • Largest U.S. Trucker in Complete Freefall [View article]
While the economy has not been a benefit to Yellow in the past two years, it is their very poor management practices that has finally brought them and their "brother" Roadway, now YRCW, down. I have been with both companies and the management just doesn't seem to get the idea of treating their employees like human beings, and the laborers don't seem to get that for them to make more money, the company has to make more money. Therefore the bad management mixed with what I call the "Union Attitude" has finally brought them down. I was told multiple times to "slow down, save some work for the next guy". This is completely against my work ethic. I have also seen management treat the employees as a number and not hold them accountable for their work, or lack of. To be sucessfull, it is my belief that you have to do right things right. You have to have a good plan, and you have to hold your employees accountable to that plan and the rules set forth. It is my belief that this is why FedEx and UPS will be the ones coming out ahead when the economy picks up, which it will. They both have good, solid management and they both seem to hold their employees accountable. Watch for both of these companies to survive through these tough times.

I agree. I see Mr. Fred Smith as a very intelligent man who knows how to adapt and overcome. In my amatuer opinion, the company is not in terrible shape, yet he has the foresight to make cuts BEFORE things get out of hand, something that another large trucking company (YRC) has failed to do and has paid the ultimate price for. I have a great amount of respect for Mr. Smith and know that FedEx will not only survive, but will thrive through these tough economical and political times our country is currently living in. Anyone who disagrees should do a little research on Mr. Smith and you will see the fight the man has in him and the tough times that he has already pushed his company through. Thank You.
