I don't think the customer cares what color your shoes are. I think the customer is diverse enough to not worry about this. They want expertise on the product. One question, in many states when your employer tells you what type and color of shoe is requires, they must pay for the shoes. Did they offer to pay? You might check with the laws in your state? What state are you in?

Update: Integrity is everything. Let's talk about the JOS system (job opening system). When a new position is available internally, the job is posted in the JOS site. What happens next is the interview may take place, by phone, panel, etc. What happens behind the curtain? The good old boys with the support of yes, you guessed it (hr) has already chosen who has the job. It is called the "tap" on the shoulder, decisions are made prior to the interviews. Is this true in every case, no. Just many of the cases. If you can't trust hr, you might think about representation.

Update: key employee continue to leave and take severance. HR continues to play the role of, "we need you". The problem Is the HR department is one of the reason that great employees leave. They have over the years turn from protecting great employees, to supporting the leadership to a fault. And to think, big bonuses were paid out to the Hr leader. Is it time to ask for representation? If your Hr team does not do the right and the legal thing to create a safe environment, then the the time is right to get representation. You might want to call OSHA if you feel you are in an unsafe working condition.

Update. The manufactures of the electronics and appliances that BBY sells have not been informed of the lack of training for the Techs that will now attempt to repair the product under warranty. This is not great news for anyone. A manufacture wants TOP skilled techs repairing the product brand when it fails. Not a TV tech repairing an appliance. Best Buy techs, you might start calling your manufacture reps and explain the new BBY service solution. Additional warranty parts cost and lower customer service levels, and this is how BBY expects to grow the business and keep customers? No wonder top people have left the company!

I have heard that TV techs received 60 days training on appliances and are now considered experts and have replaced the appliance techs. What a shame. Another example on how BBY will suffer on customer service. Can you confirm this information? Also can you send this blog to your tech friends and see if they can add details to this information.

I forgot, one of the above managers also ran a "hotdog" stand after college. Great background.

Update. Information that the reorganization is falling apart. Managers will be leaving because of a lack of "Life Balance between Work and Home". Managers are seeing 80 hour work weeks and with the holiday season around the corner, it my be more. When was the last time someone at the Corp office worked 80 hours? Just another example of the lack of respect to the employees that work outside of Corp.

Update. BBY better move fast on naming a new CEO. The word on the street is that the Teamsters have been contacted and they will make a big move in the next 90 days. It is time for BBY to commit to the remaining employees. Stock options need to be adjusted to the current evaluation. Your employees are your only true assets. You can buy a TV from ANYWHERE.

Forget the tension between Corp management and the current store employee, start thinking about the CUSTOMER. If The customer is not FIRST in the recovery phase of bringing BBY back from the dead, then BBY will become CC. Cut your service team and you will train your customer to go someplace else.

You are correct. They are paying Big Bonuses. See below. Don't drink the Kool-Aid

Destruction of Trust Between Management and Workforce

First, Best Buy's decision to lay off workers comes about only one week after the company announced that it was giving $10 million in bonuses to four executives for doing nothing more than not leaving the company. An article describing those "continuity bonuses" can be found here.

You must be smoking something from Hawaii. You just lost the only advantage in retail. The Service is what some people will spend extra money on. This is only the beginning of the service layoffs. All service techs, computer, TV, Appliance and installation techs need to unite and contact your local union. You need some representation. You have none! Make the call today or By By BBY.

The truth. The Heads of Service came from Best Buy Retail and the auto industry. They have completely screwed up this division. In order to cover up the over 3 years of mismanagement, they cut cost and look like they now will receive a promotion? I would think that any service employee would start to think "union".
