Another Crisis Looms Right Around the Corner [View article]
If and when the proverbial POO hits the fan, I'll be more than happy to trade you a few 9mm Luger rounds for, I dunno, a 1/4 oz of gold? Seriously, have you guys tried to buy ammo recently? the supply is extremely limited to non existent. Precious metal is a great form of wealth, however nothing beats bullets when it comes to function. to have a truely diversified portfolio, and the means to protect it, one must keep both arms & ammo.
Uh Oh... Looks like the FDIC's plan to insure the PPIP obligation isn't looking too good right about now. Let's see now the FDIC is continually underestimating bank losses (payouts), then they charge the remaining banks their insurance fees up front (Premiums, currently they're planning to charge 3yrs in advance). So the existing banks pay up and a few years from now when they face losses or failure MAYBE the FDIC will have money or still have the ability to continue to charge premiums in advance.... when did the guys from Social Security start running our banking system? Was backing by FDIC supposed to cause investor interest in PPIP deals? I hope not.
Ethanol vs. Natural Gas or Coal: Comparison Not Even Close [View article]
Additionally, lets not forget about the GOV regulation and/or lack thereof that makes oil MUCH more expensive (futures, OPEC, Kyoto type agendas, etc) than it should be if the price of Oil were purely determined by Supply and Demand. So compare the EROEI of the pure Free Market priced Oil to the EROEI of the pure Free Market priced Corn based Ethanol... yeah, see it now!?!?!
i like the analogy. the US is like Randy the Ram in the Wrestler. Still juicing up and wrestling right after suffering a heart attack. I for one foresee our best case scenario to be most similar to Japan's lost decade. Obama is having his Job Summit meeting soon, I'm guessing they'll ask for another shot of Human Employment Hormone by end of 1Q10.
Ten Reasons I'm Buying Activision Blizzard [View article]
MW2 is a good game and plenty more will be picking it up for Xmas. I don't think ATVI has any more releases that will be as significant as MW2. the author's timing was good as he picked it up last year. If you picked it up prior to the MW2 release your good. but should I buy it now? don't think so. Guitar Hero peaked like 2 yrs ago, WOW fees are def nice, Starcraft II won't release on time. what new release is going to make ATVI pop?
BTW- I've had to download updates for MW2 and PS3 system every time I've tried to play... it's driving me nuts!
The GOV needs inflation to sustain its perpetual growth and intrusion into our lives. I was listening to NPR on the radio today. Tax revenues here in Georgia are down 18%. Without inflation how else are our state and federal GOVs supposed to continually borrow now and pay later with interest?
What's Wrong with the Gaming Industry? [View article]
the gaming industry is still going strong. I agree with the author that there is a glut of titles that should not be getting made and are taking away from the sales of other and better titles. Also, gaming sales typically track hard copy retail sales ONLY. Online rentals, online downloads and rental services such as gamefly are increasing every month. MW2 is going to be HUGE and that is a title that gets nearly completely redone and upgraded every 2 years (when you include the COD titles). Nintendo and the Wii are starting to nosedive as the casual gamer demographic is pretty much "over" playing tennis and Wii board. Xbox 360- does anyone still pay for those games? go onto Craigslist and you can pay a guy $50 to get ur console moded to play burnt/copied titles. plus the 360 is a garbage console with a good online user interface that has more 12 yr olds using filthy language than a teen boot camp. PS3 is finally starting to gain momentum. Its the real deal console that cost less than your PC or blue ray player and can do 3x as much. As soon as PS3 gets the bigger franchise titles they'll take off. and the shelf life for the PS3 will last another 5 yrs. People are still buyng PS2 games!
Are We Becoming a Nation of Renters? Investing for the New Housing Dynamic [View article]
The downside to some of the upscale apartment REITs, is that when housing prices finally bottom out to their actual value they will be bought by investors and rented at or near the same price as the nicer apartments or the renters will come out of their shells (apts) and back into housing. Right now in Atlanta I could by a condo comparable to a POST apartment in the same location/area and pay the mortgage, association fees, and taxes for slightly more ($200-300/mth) than it would cost to rent. FHA loans are only requiring 3.5% down and we all know rates are low and Bernanke will keep them that way for as long as he can. When the Condo/SFH prices drop again by 2Q10 it will cost just as much to rent as to own. the only problem is I'd have to live in ATL.
The Wii is an inferior piece of gaming equipment bought up in Fad-like fashion by casual gamers, bored houswives, and spoiled kids. It is not a true gamers platform. XBOX was rushed onto the markets and is not nor ever was cheaper than PS3. Nintendo and Wii made their money quick selling crappy consoles and short lived technology. Sony is starting to pull ahead b/c it IS the best console and IS the cheapest.
Great article Mr. Quinn. I'm with many others who believe that GOV healthcare will be the final straw for the US. I don't really foresee a revolution or anything like that, as most of us are rather dumb and complacent, but I do see an impending and significant decrease from our current "quality" of life. People may actually have to start doing REAL work to support their lifestyles within the next 10-20yrs.
How Bloomberg Fabricates U.S. Housing Numbers [View article]
I don't think the difference in the 18.95-19 million is that big of a deal, considering all of the shades of gray that weren't included in the number in the first place (ie- banks keeping them off the balance sheet). The later parts of the article are good. I'm not ready to call shenanigans on Bloomberg quite yet. Home prices will continue to decline as inventories keep rising. If the GOVs of the world are able to continue to collude and fix interest rates, it will be easier to fabricate a recovery. That is the only objective as of now- fake it til we make it.
Money Multiplier Still Sending Deflation Signal [View article]
We've been in a deflationary cycle ever since oil peaked in 08'. Nearly EVERYTHING is cheaper- houses, cars, food, consumer products and tons of other things that don't make its way into the basket of goods used to determine CPI. Big Brother can only define the economy as Steady Growth and Slight Decline.
Verizon Launches Direct Ad Attack Against the iPhone [View article]
I didn't get an iPhone b/c I'm a dinosaur that NEEDS a real keyboard- drunk texting at 3am is already dangerous enough. Oh! and AT&T is the absolute WORST cell provider. for the record, Vista does suck @$$ and I don't care for mac os much either. iTunes is a wonderful app though. OH! lastly- you can't even send pics on the iPhone!
The Arithmetic of Gold: Why Its Price Has No Ceiling [View article]
Sorry Goldman and Goldbugs, you can trade your gold back and forth these days and make some extra dollars, but if and when the sh!t hits the fan (the author referenced hostile Nazi takeovers) the true cost of storing gold will bite you in the ass. The remaining GOV or Militiary will confiscate all of your holdings or you will be forced to trade all of your gold for protection/security for you and your family or it will be taken from you at gunpoint by a broke young fellow like me :) So keep talking up the end of modern society, as if anyone would benefit from such an event, b/c when that day comes you'll learn that Guns always beat Gold. Until then enjoy making 5%-10% while the price is still going up.
ha ha! that's a good one.. everything was fine in America- But then we elected a black kenyan for president. ha ha! BTW- which fraternity did the bushes and kerry belong to again? i forgot.
