  • Can You Retire Worry-Free On Less Than $1 Million?  [View article]
The key to working till age 65 or later is say YES to everything, have no opinion, stop caring, and become a spoke, that walks the wheel.
Once your 60,they dont really want your opinion and or expertise.
My problem is, I could never be a yes man,I always had to stand up for what I felt was "RIGHT"
There is no right in todays world
Politically correct and morally bankrupt world !!

Im attempting it in San Diego.
Not as pricey as San Francisco, but probably much higher than Charlotte.
My condo is paid, cars are paid,so its just the monthly grind for me.
We have the highest electric rates in the country, and they were just granted another rate hike.
Leaving San Diego is not a option for me,this city is my mistress.
I have thought of temporarily living abroad until age 65,come back when I can access my benefits.

  • Retirement Strategy: The Withdrawal Phase Might Not Be As Frightening As You Think  [View article]
    Forced to retire at 55.
    Divorced,no kids,no family.
Small pension that decreases at age 62
    LESS than 1 million saved.
    Now age 59.
Gameplan is to live on dividends and small pension only, till age 65,then begin the standard 4% withdrawl.
The key to any gameplan is keeping expenses low.
If your mortgage is paid, you can be happy driving a Civic over a Mercedes, and you dont need designer clothes, your gonna be OK.
Also consider many Americans that retire early, live outside the USA to save on medical costs.
Recently 60 minutes showed the cost of cancer medication as being as much as $90k if you remain in America.
Sad,but some must retire outside the country we love.

While we think alike on many issues,I do not follow your advice on each and every trade.
IMHO,sometimes you bail or react too quickly.
I am making far fewer moves this year,as not to outsmart myself.
For instance,Im not dumping CVX just because of the freeze.
Like Chowder,I consider Rose a contributor as much as a commentor.

  • Dividend Champions For July 2015  [View article]

    Thanks for the kind words.
There will be many names you recognize and probably a few surprises in the way of growth and foreign exposure.
I have chosen Schwab to build this portfolio,as they are giving me 1 year in free trades up to 500.
Obviously the market is frothy, with many predicting a correction,so I will be dollar cost averaging over a 1 year period.
I truly appreciate any and all feedback.

    Best Regards,
    Bill in San Diego

    Great contribution.
I think many people are now using the Chowder rule when trying to judge future dividend growth.
This should be a great thread of comments and very helpful in me building my new portfolio beginning July 20

    Thanks for your efforts,
