  • The Million-Dollar Retirement Portfolio: 1-Year Follow-Up [View article]
While ours is less than 1 million we share many of the same picks as you.
We do not own SDRL,but we did have major blunders with VNR and BBEP.
Like yourself our goal is to live off a 4% dividend return, not touching our shares.
I also get a small pension.
To the folks who say "you cant live off $40k per year",that depends on debt.
If you are mortgage free, car loan free, credit card free, and shop at Wal Mart instead of Rodeo Drive you can live fine.
We live in San Diego,Americas finest city, but by no means cheapest living.
My OBAMACARE is my largest monthly expense.

  • The Biggest Threat To Your Retirement Portfolio: Mild Dementia [View article]
My dad's dementia was caused by several things.
First he is "A FIB",heart never did really pump enough blood to the brain.
Second,he loaded the "BIG GUNS" on his ship, stood beneath the guns, without ear protection, during word war 2.
Each time they fired the gun it was like a punch.
Third,he was a boxer in the Navy.
As a boxing fan,and knowing and meeting a few professional boxers, their brains take a tremendous beating.
Having learned to box,I can assure you getting punched in the face is not fun,no matter how good you are.

  • The Biggest Threat To Your Retirement Portfolio: Mild Dementia [View article]
    P.A,
I have lived this article !
I currently care for my 89 yr old father who is now on hospice for the third time.
Loss of judgement is key to this article in that people notice them slipping and take advantage.
They are not yet fully in need of help, and will in fact fight it.
I had a cousin help herself to all of his antiques, build a new home, buy a new boat, with money he loaned her.
Not only did she help herself but he turned on his only child,me.
She knew he would never remember the loan !!
We know about it and will take legal action after he passes.
People dont wait like I did trusting unscrupulous relatives.
Photograph and video tape every belonging in your parents home
    DOCUMENT,DOCUMENT,DOCU... and trust no-one

  • Retirement Strategy: Dumping Chevron To Add More Exxon Mobil For Income [View article]
I willing to trade my BBEP and VNR to any unhappy CVX shareholders.
While the dividend freeze is unpleasant,it sure beats the spanking I have taken with the above.

  • The Dividend Growth Stocks I Consider Buying Opportunities Today [View article]
    DH,

Thank You for this great research, you have exploded onto the SA scene like rookie of the year.
Your contributions are well written and more than well thought out.
I certainly enjoy seeing how you build your house, and while I use other life metrics in my analysis,I reach many of the same conclusions as you.
Im a bit more bullish on LMT,as it seems they are awarded a new contract daily.
I hope you continue with this series on a monthly basis.

Your employer is very lucky to have you.

    All the Best,
