Historian of economic growth and public policy, who has been a high-tech entrepreneur for the last 13 years. My dissertation studied the role of financial and technical innovations in creating economic growth. I then analyzed the policy responses to a breakdown in the engine of prosperity, beginning with the 1907 financial panic. I studied the period from 1865-1919, looking at Western Pennsylvania, which at the time was the center of industry for the US economy.

If only we better understood history, we would make much better policy choices.
