Healthcare Reform: Two Extremes, Neither Focusing on Health [View article]
Spot on. This is the first article I've read that has a clue as to how to fix our health care system. With 20 years of ER experience and 2 years of owning an Urgent Care I've developed a very similar view of what is happening and what needs to be done. Unfortunately, you are the only other person I've come across who shares my views. The paucity of comments shows how little interest there is in actually trying to do something productive.

Whatever. There remains 2 facts that cannot be dismissed. 1. Goldman's incestous ties to the Government. 2. The fact that Goldman is for all intents and purposes the only player left in what was once a very large field. These add up to a very disturbing situation.
David Weidner wishes Madoff victims would stop whining. So does Joe Nocera: "They were robbed, pure and simple, and the government is not in the business of reimbursing for robberies. Not even when the cops stumble across the robbers and then mistakenly let them go." [View news story]
I have no problem accepting my losses. However, the IRS shouldn't profit. For 20 years I wrote quarterly checks to subsidize my children's college funds by paying the taxes on their phantom gains. I just want to refile my taxes for the 20 years I paid for ficticious gains.

I understand that TBTshorts TLT (theoretically) But there is a significant degradation when you hold these ETFs. I tried to shot SCO (oil short) when I got frustrated with USO. Myself as well as others are at at loss to find a brokerage firm to short ETFs. The only reference I can find is regarding a discount brokerage in Canada. Has anyone had any luck using discount US brokerages?
How about a one shot deal for everyone to refinance at 3%? No qualifying, just swap the paper. Housing prices would then drop to a reasonable level once the deal ends and the new mortgage payments go up. Those with the 3% deal would be underwater and unable to move but they would have cheap housing they could afford.
