'$31.20/share for Dec '08' So we're back under 90 again today? HOW can this not be a screaming deal, if you're thinking long term? IF we hit 80 again I'm leggin' in with some LEAPs..... one man's opinion...
Is It Possible to Spend and Save at the Same Time? [View article]
well argued JohnL, but I'd still ask by what means this will necessarily occur: "..freed-up labor and material are redeployed from producing consumer goods to producing capital goods."
Theoretically overall demand could continue to stay low indefinitely, could it not, if some stimulus is not introduced to encourage spending on even capital goods. Especially now, when our credit markets continue to stay locked up, the velocity of money has slowed dramatically, and there's no end in sight? Isn't the problem now that even sensible consumer or capital spending is not occurring, and needs to be 'promoted' in some way, even if the stimulus is poorly conceived?
Wal-Mart's "Save Money, Live Better" Is a Winner! [View article]

U.S. Debt Default, Dollar Collapse Altogether Likely [View article]
The arguments against the dollar are pretty convincing, at least to a layman like me. But it seems that the was out of this mess involves similar strategies by governments around the world, all of which will result in big devaluations of their respective currencies. My question: I really haven't heard an explanation of exactly how all the currencies of the world, whose value is expressed in terms of other currencies, can get devalued simultaneously. I can see the case for gold being stronger than everything else though in all this, as it seems beyond the reach of de-valuing through a huge increase in supply.......
