I've spent much of my adult life learning about investing. If you don't do the homework - and there's a lot to learn - you have no one to blame but yourself. Excellent article.
I think I understand your general concept, but I also agree with Joe B. The initial fault lies with the banks for letting this happen. What's more, if people did pay off their mortgage with their IRA, I suspect the average rate of return for real estate to be flat, to 2 2-1/2% for the foreseeable future.

Excellent article! Desperate times call for desperate measures. Letting the free markets fix this is a much better solution. Getting all the "experts" with their big egos to agree on anything as practical as this is a tall order I'm afraid. Seems to me it's easier for them to watch the country go bankrupt.
